This instrumental piece of music is called
Maid Marian and it's from the much critcised and maligned movie Kevin Cosnter movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. No don't groan, it's beautiful. Really and it took me about 300 years to upload which is why you download it of course!!! ;) I steal the screen cap from my
Scenes in movies/tv shows that "Got" me post.
Guilty and faintly sheepish smile. I'm not a Costner fan, apart from Dances with Wolves and The Untouchables - but this movie is just so lovely. Look at the beautiful misty scene with Robin and Marian, imagine the following words and have the beautiful music playing in the background. It works - even though it's basically an instrumental version of the Bryan Adams song 'Everything I do I do for you' (gadzooks and odds bodkins! I know you're saying) - but for some reason, slow harp, clarinet and soaring strings just sell it.
Marian: If the sheriff found out, I could lose all that I have
Robin: But will you do it for your king?
Marian: No. I'll do it for you.
Koala swoons *chortle*
The following is the 'Outlaws of Sherwood' extract from my
Robin McKinley Page:
As I've said, I re-read Robin McKinley's books with great regularity. She's one of those authors who has the knack of writing a book that I love to read again and again. 'Outlaws of Sherwood' is a particular favourite. I've never even been particuarly interested in the Robin Hood legend and so it was quite a surprised to discover myself being drawn to the the lifelike, humorous characters who like all McKinley creations are somehow down to earth despite their extraordinary situations.
In this retelling of the Robin Hood story, Robin is an ordinary young man who wants nothing more than to live a peaceful life. The last thing he wants is to be forced into a life of infamy and notoriety. The last thing he wants is to be Robin "Normanslayer" or "Sheriff's-bane". It is with great chagrin he learns that he is called Robin "King of Sherwood" and he is a reluctant hero. I love the host of secondary characters - Marian, Much, Will Scarlet, Cecil, Little John and the rest of the outlaws of Sherwood.
I blame Robin McKinley. After reading that, I loved Clannad's 'Legend' soundtrack to the BBC Robin Hood series. I also adored the BBC comic series 'Marian and her Merry Men' - where one of her merry men was a Rastafarian. I even loved the Kevin Costner movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves but last but absolutely not least was 'Outlaws of Sherwood' by Robin McKinley.
