Season 2 of The Expanse started last week and I really enjoyed the episode.
Bobbie Draper on Mars with her squad! While it's not in the books, I like the extra time they are giving us to see Bobbie with her squad so that we get to know her and them better ...
Bobbie dreams of a future Mars ... one day 100 years later when they have finished terraforming - the terraforming having been interrupted to divert funds and resources into military spending ...
Thank goodness this was a nightmare scene ...
And Holden isn't infected ... just still very ill from the radiation ...
Glad that treatment for the cancer isn't forgotten in the series
Alex scans the refugees to make sure they are clear of infection from the protomolecule
Amos and Naomi work on opening this container - which I thought was a really bad idea and it was confirmed to be a bad idea when they find out that it's a sample of the damned protomolecule
They see what happened on Phoebe ...
The crew have a "what the hell do we do now?" moment
Meanwhile we learn more about Bobbie - who is fiercely loyal to Mars
Evil Jules-Pierre Mao is in league with the equally Evil Sadavir Errinwright
Miller's and Holden's cancer meds - similar in delivery method to the contraceptive patch, but a lot more unsightly ...
Seeing Naomi looking after Holden made me
think of my old fic ...and made me happy :)
Miller and Amos face off in the galley
Amos wants to talk about Amos' shooting of Miller's friend Sematimba back on Eros
The talk doesn't go well
Amos has crazy eyes in this scene
He tells Miller to stay down ... but Miller doesn't listen ...
If not for Naomi's interference, Miller would have been cactus ...
I'm a little conflicted about the Miller-Amos scene to be honest. It's not that I really care that Amos beat Miller. He's not anywhere near one of my favourite characters - in this incarnation anyway ... but I don't like the fact that to an audience who hasn't read the books, Amos will continue to appear as a one-note thug of muscle and violence when he's actually
much more complex than that.
Certainly Miller thinks he's just a monster ...
Anyway, back on earth and the incomparable and serene Chrisjen Avasarala has just survived an assassination attempt.
Who can she trust? Admiral Souther who is fighting hard for peace ...
Clearly not Admiral Nguyen who like Errinwright is pushing for war ...
Avasarala, as always, keeps her cards close to her chest - while looking immaculate
But sneakily finds Coytar to help her out and have her back ..
Bobbie and her squad are heading to Phoebe to kick Earth Butts ..
While Naomi makes sure Holden is ok ...
And then they hook up...
What I don't understand is how they got their pants off so fast to do this wall sex? They seemed to be struggling to get their clothes off earlier and Holden's all achey and in pain ... but then Naomi slams him against a wall, their clothes dissolve and they go bam bam bam ..
More back story on Bobbie...
Alex bores Amos with some endless introspection
So Amos pays someone else with drinks to sit in for him :)
Naomi and Holden talk about their relationship and whether they should tell the rest of the crew
Meanwhile, in Tycho Station, Fred's recruiting
And also channelling Roslin from Battlestar Galactica ...
Avasarala gets some backstory on Fred from Souther ...
Fred's cool second in command confused me for a while. I thought she might be Michio Pa (which would mean the poor actress had a long time to hang around before her next gig), but then some people said that she was Samara Rosenberg - which worried me ... but apparently she's Drummer
Teams are deployed in FedEx shipping containers :D
Another nod to Battlestar Galactica ...
Dresden the unethical scientist
He tries to negotiate with Fred and Holden
But Miller won't have a bar of it ...
All in all a really intriguing start to season 2 of The Expanse and I'm pretty excited for the rest of the season ... but how are they going to manage to fit in everything they need to fit in this season???? I don't want to have them only get halfway through Caliban's War!! :D I also really hope that we see more of Amos' humour and compassion ...
