The Expanse book spoilers: when I think of Amos Burton...

I think of the tv version who is kind of hot…

Book version of Amos e.g. from Cibola Burn is …

“The man who’d asked was huge, pale, and muscular. His shaved head and thick belly made him look like a gigantic baby.“

and

Amos lumbered up from the side. His smile was as open and friendly as ever, but Elvi thought there might be a little edge to it. His broad, bald head always made her think of babies, and she had to restrain herself from patting it.

Not so hot… makes me think of this …

If I was the author, I'd have such a hard time not seeing TV Amos when writing Book Amos now ...

They all look too pretty and too young, honestly, even though the actors are all close in age to the characters. But I think they got the heart of the characters very well with the casting.

xoalenko said: I mean Wes has said he thought he wasn’t going to get cast because of his looks/age, but he loved Amos so much that he had to try because he really , really wanted the role. And that passion must have shown through. Sure, looks matter sometimes. But I think the strength of his audition probably played a big part too.

whenimaunicorn said: I’m working on a piece of meta about how attractiveness does/would play into Amos’ reception, but I keep tripping over my words when I try… let’s just say a lot of his book character would probably be different if he were as hot as Wes, and his raunchy book dialogue would play very differently on screen so I see why they took that out (sigh…). Also I hated every minute of Elvi describing him, every scene I just hoped she wouldn’t look at him

And what’s funny is book Amos is the one low-key hitting on everyone. I suppose if they carried that through to the show it would make the character read very differently though. That kind of scattershot flirtation means something else when it comes from a hot person. It would probably make it harder for TV viewers to notice what makes his character different from the standard heteronormative “muscle” character, but damn. I want, anyway.

Not attractive at all.  However, I love that they chose hot actors/actresses in the show BECAUSE it’s a visual medium and I love me some eye candy, ngl.

Me: : I don’t have a problem with non-hot either but I think my problem was that i watched the show before I read the books … Also while Alex’s descriptions are fine, the descriptions of Amos just make him sound weird…

maedhros-nelyafinwe said: They do! I watched the show first too and when I read how he was described, I got amused. I’ve got two different Amos’ running around in my head. TV show looks hot, and the books look doofy -like the photo you posted under the cut.
