Reminder of why I write fan fic
Back in 2006, I read The Black Magician Series by Australian author Trudi Canavan.
I loved the series but I totally, totally hated the ending. It was terrible and upsetting. It was one of those books where I had this kind of reaction:

It is definitely not one of my most popular fics but I have to say that ten years on, it’s the one where I get the most consistent comments: “I hated the original ending:”, “the original ending upset me soooo much” etc.
Writing the new ending cheered me up and I have to say, I’ve never bothered to re-read the series since reading it back in 2006 because it was upsetting and in my head, my ending replaced the real ending and I didn’t want to destroy that illusion …
