With Wes Canvar (Alex) after episodes 2 and 3.  Wes is a Canadian actor born in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Iranian parents and raised in Montreal, Quebec.  He speaks speaks English, French, Persian, and some Arabic, Hindi, and Spanish! He plays Alex, a Pakistani Texan guy from the Mars Colony.  There’s a great comment in there by Cas about how his character is non-white but his character is not all about being ethnic - he’s just a cool pilot and team-mate and it’s a character he’s been looking for for a long time.
He also discusses how three of the lead characters are non-white females .. and it’s true.  Such unconventional casting but it’s also such an amazingly realistic and well-acted and smart science fiction show.  Love it.  I need to finish reading the books before I try to write any fic…
