Television thoughts

May 14, 2010 20:57

I have been watching a lot of shows lately so don't have the energy to write about each one individually. Consider this a slacker's post :) Spoiler warning - I shall talk about:

1. Justified: Thoughts so far
2. The Good Wife - Unplugged
3. Legend of the Seeker - Eternity episode
4. Supernatural - season finale
5. Glee - Thoughts so far.

Justified

Like it but don't love it. It's very slow-moving, I'm not sure where it's going ... While I like the main character, I can't stand that he keeps visiting the annoying guy in prison with the receding hairline. I also don't like Ava at all and I especially dislike the whole "still in love with the ex-wife" storyline that we seem to get time and time and time again in such shows.

The Good Wife - Unplugged

This show is very good and generally I think the acting and storylines have been excellent. I'll just write about my complaints :)

1. Hate Peter sooooooo bad. Hate that his breaking of his home imprisonment conditions led to: (a) son injuring himself and lying; (b) Alicia being tied to Peter even more

2. I hated that Carey lost his job like that ... it seemed really bad. Alicia shouldn't have been waiting outside like that - kind of humiliating.

3. I hated that Alicia asked Eli for help and then looked so surprised when he made it clear that he was expecting quid pro quo. How stupid is she? Did she really think that he was helping her out of the kindness of his heart? Also, they make it look as though the firm only does litigation not general corporate advisory - what sort of work would Eli need from them?

4. While I love the dynamic these days between Diane and Will - I'm still flabbergasted by how their law firm is supposed to be so big and prestigious when it actually just keeps looking like a tiny boutique firm.

5. What is happening with Kalinda? Is she gay/bi/just very dedicated to her job? I do not get the dynamic with the oily cop at all ...

Legend of the Seeker - Eternity episode

Why does Darken Rahl always torture his Mord'Sith with them wearing slutty little black leather tops and skirts? Also, is the 'breaking' so accurate and specific that it's like reformatting a diskette? I'm a bit baffled. I really didn't want Cara to go bad again :P I think I preferred Darken Rahl when he was the Doomed to Die Haldir.

Supernatural - season finale

It was ok - didn't love it. Way too much angst, although that's to be expected. As a season finale it's definitely not as good as some of the previous ones although I suppose it's Sam's turn to be banished to hell since Dean's already been and come back. Castiel and Bobby are really the show's stars - they're so awesome ... I did not like the reappearance of Lisa and her supposed importance to Dean - where did that come from? It's not like she's a character that's ever really resonated with us ... I'm curious about how they will have a season 6 from this ...

Glee - Thoughts so far.

Hell-O and Home were baaaad, the Power of Madonna was ordinary ... Bad Reputation and Laryngitis have been redeemed by good songs. The newer episodes are really bad in comparison to the earlier episodes. When the first episodes were created, they were done in a vacuum as such - the storyline was more important with the songs chosen to fit the story. The newer episodes are all heavily influenced by fan feedback and that's a mistake.
- more songs that sometimes don't progress the story or really have any purpose except to have downloads on iTunes
- more Sue and her sister
- blatant shout-outs to the fans like "Puckleberry".
- over-use of Brittany because the fans like her
- too much Kurt/Kurt's dad because fans like that

Sometimes it's just painful. The last episode was tolerable except that Finn's quadraplegic friend storyline was appallingly heavy-handed and unsubtle. I thought it was just jarring and ghastly - plus the use of U2's "One" was just baaaaad .... Rachel's insincere tear at the end of the song was sooooooo bad. Nonetheless, the episode was redeemed by Jessie's Girl which is an awesome song :)
