Supernatural: Long Distance Call and Things That Eat Your Brain
I watched the Supernatural episode Long Distance Call but although I didn't really think it was that great an episode, it did feature a few Things That Scare The Crap Out Of Me.
My brother is terrified of clowns, inanimate objects coming to life (particularly vegetables and statues :) etc and so on. I have my own traumas :D
Blurb: The town of Milan, Ohio, is plagued by a series of calls where the victims are contacted by dead loved ones, and urged to commit suicide. When Dean and Sam investigate, Dean gets a call of his own and the two brothers are soon at odds ... There are spoilers.
'kay. So one of my traumas is Things That Eat Your Brain
A phone keeps ringing and the caller display is SHA33. We learn that this is a very old number from Way Back When and that for some reason, the Dead are supposedly calling through on it.
Here is the Distressed Man who is upset because his dead girlfriend is phoning him and also because he knows that he is Doomed because he has the bad luck to start up an episode of Supernatural
Naturally in terrified distress he hurls the phone across the room
It is pulled from the wall
No longer connected!
Here's a close-up in case we are sceptical
But of course ... within seconds ... the disconnected phone starts to ring again ...
Although, I have absolutely no doubt that this is a Thing That Could Definitely Eat Your Brain, the dude overreacts somewhat and pulls open his drawer.
Proving why it's an extremely bad idea to keep around a loaded gun nearby when one is upset.
In another part of town, this girl is very distressed because her Dead Mother has been calling her from SHA33
And if that wasn't bad enough, she has now has taken to messaging her online
Freaked out, she stares at the screen
And sees her mother's form laying her hand on her shoulder
She, too leaps back and turns off the monitor - although she doesn't rip it out by the cord.
She stares at in horror. Just like us, she knows that ...
It's going to turn itself back on again ...
And write a scary message
Over and over again
I think HAL telling Dave he was afraid in 2001 was probably the ultimate in a Thing That Eats Your Brain
Then at the end of the episode, we find out that the scary thing making calls is a Crocotta, a scavenger creature that lures victims to their deaths and feeds on their souls. This is DEFINITELY a Thing That Eats Your Brain
