In no particular order ...
1. Funny emails from The Canadian. He has a hilarious turn of phrase and quirky sense of humour that always makes me smile/giggle, if not laugh outright. I need to be careful how I write this, though, so that it doesn't go to his head :) There's an episode of Numb3rs called Uncertainty Principle in which Charlie observes the pattern of some bank robbers to predict where they will strike next. Apparently Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle is that "an aspect of quantum mechanics that states an object cannot be observed without changing what is being observed".
Charlie Eppes: There's something else that has to be considered.
Don Eppes: Like what?
Charlie Eppes: Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Heisenberg noted that the act of observation will effect the observed; in other words, when you watch something, you change it, and uh, uh, for example, an electron, you know, you can't really measure it without bumping into it in some small way. Any physical act of observation requires interaction with a form of energy, like light, and that will change the nature of the electron, its path of travel.
Don Eppes: Hold on. You know I got, like, a C in physics, so just take me through how this relates to the case.
Charlie Eppes: Don, you've observed the robbers. They know it. That will change their actions.
*gasp* If he tries to be funny, he might write something boring! *gasp* ;)
2. When a happy/good song comes onto my iPod unexpectedly when I'm walking along the road Deep in Thought. It's like a tiny wake-up call to be happy and cheer up. Music has an almost immediate 'pick me up" effect.
3. The Starbucks guys downstairs in my building. They recognise me and know my order so as soon as I turn the corner, they will call out my order and start making my coffee. If I'm in the queue and they see me, they start making my coffee even if I'm at the back of the queue. This morning, a whole bunch of very rude Chinese people pushed in front of me in the queue, but they already started making my coffee anyway so by the time I got to the front of the queue, all I had to do was pay and pick up my coffee. It was really, really sweet.
4. When there's a gleefully, shippy moment between a couple I ship in a book or a television show. It makes me grin and grin and grin :)
5. When one of the guys at work uses something that they learned from me (whether work-practice-wise or English-wise) even if it's incorrect. I find it endearing that they try.
