“Hey, little guy, are you lost?”

The first time I saw you, you were covered in mud and blood. Your small body would have been considered pitiful to anyone else, curled up into a quivering ball in the shadows of an alleyway. To me, however, you were beautiful. Those small, innocent eyes of yours lifted to meet mine, shimmering in remaining fear.

You squeaked, stammering, trying to escape further from me, before answering me. “Th-They... they hurt m-me...”

A father-like panic filled my being, running through my limbs as I examined you, urgent eyes scanning every inch of your tan flesh. When I saw that your shorts were around your tiny ankles, colored in streams of red and chunks of white, I wanted to cry.

I scooped you into my arms, lifting your little form from the sinful puddle of pain and suffering that was the dirty mortal life. You nuzzled your nose into my neck, and you trusted me to be your salvation. I set you on your feet, pulling up your shorts and fixing you up. Taking your hand into my larger one, I led you back to the orphanage without a word.

At the gates, you stood on your tiptoes and pulled me down to your level, placing a chaste kiss on my cheek in thanks. And when I turned to leave, you called me back.

“Ajussi! Are those wings on your back real?”

I never answered you, smiling to myself slightly as I walked on. You were old enough to be my son. I prayed to God that I'd meet you again.

“How could you do that, meanie!?”

The second time I saw you, she was yelling at you. Your sixth grade math binder was clutched to your side as you stood there, head lowered, listening to her accusations like a little gentleman. It took everything for me to not laugh out loud at how cute you looked, gazing at you from over the top of my cafe menu. You had grown so much.

Her slapping you was not expected by either of us, and you yelped as my menu hit the table. I stared in fascination as you got on your knees and bowed to her, trying to keep her. I didn't really see why she was so special, but then again she was your girlfriend. And I was sure you chose the best a twelve year old could have picked.

But she stepped on your fingers in ungrateful selfishness, spitting on you, and I flew. I had to hold you back as you tried to pounce on her, fury burning in your irises. She screamed, that annoying high-pitched squeak only capable of females, and turned to run, from you or from me, I'm not sure. I held you from behind as you cooled, soothed by me, your salvation.

When you turned to stare up at me, you weren't supposed to remember. I'm not sure if you did. But I'm sure that you tried. Something was portrayed in your eyes as you continued to search my face for recognition, something that would explain why I had caught you before you had hit a girl.

The new title was surprising. “Hyung...”

It was how close our ages were now, I thought. I ruffled your hair. “What did your Umma tell you about hitting girls?”

Your eyes had darkened as you pouted, making me want to cuddle you. “She's not my real Umma.”

I know, I wanted to say. But how could I? You were only twelve, and you were so utterly human that it would have disgusted both your kind and mine to know that I had known such an intimate detail. Did you even remember?

And when I turned to leave, I was called back by you once again.

“Hyung! What are those on your back?”

And, again, I didn't answer you, slipping into the mob of people leaving the cafe. You were old enough to be my little brother. I prayed to God that I'd meet you again.

The third time I saw you, I was running from you. You had recognized me. It was a surprise. I wizzed through the many human bodies that lined the intersection upon which you saw me, a light coming to your eye. I saw you watching me, trying to interpret the familiar air I gave to you. It was when I turned, of course, that you knew. It was my wings, wasn't it?

You had gotten so tall, taller than me now, and too old for me to meet you again. You were ten days away from my age, old enough to be my lover. So I flew.

But you couldn't make it easy, could you? You chased me, leaving your current girlfriend and the man she had been cheating on you with behind. Maybe it was because I was your salvation, that all of me was yours, and yours alone, that you caught me, spinning me around so we were face to face. Your eyes were as beautiful as ever, fitting into your small, handsome face, lingering on every one of my features. I panted as you took a firm hold of my wrist, dragging me behind you. You hardly noticed my clumsy footsteps as I ran to keep up with you.

And when you pushed me into the alleyway, the same alleyway in which we met, I was sure you remembered everything. You pinned me to the wall, trapping me between your arms, and waited.

I stared at your chest, because you were so damn tall now, and I couldn't meet your eyes. I felt so small compared to you.

“Look at me.” Your voice was that of a true leader, and I envied it. When I obeyed, your eyes were intense, even for a human.

“What are you?”

“Your salvation,” I had answered, risking my everything for a few more of your gentle words.

You only stared, confused, as you wracked your brain for something else. “What's your name?”

“Jaejoong... Yunho-ah.”

This frightened you, I think. You humans are so emotional. That's probably why I roamed your world.

“How do you know my name? Why have you been everywhere I needed you? Are you a stalker?”

The only thing I knew would calm you was my hand on your cheek, and you were startled when your hand laid over mine to keep it in place.

“I've been waiting.”

And you whispered, “For what?”

“For you.”

And, for reasons only known to my kind, for reasons too vague for your species to comprehend, you kissed me. And today, I hold you still, seeing you every day to laugh with you, to love you. And I set my hourglass back on go. And I aged with you.

And I was finally completely banished from the heavens. The wings, however, were mine to keep. Only seen by you. My salvation.

A/N: I'm not sure if any of this made sense, but it was fun to write. This is one of my attempts to get off of writers block. How'd you like it?

Bye for now :)
