A nice day and a shady tree

Having left Kaycee and Wes at the hangar, Kitt drove slowly - at least, slowly for him - back to the Foundation, thinking along the way. Kaycee had offered to let him stay in her apartment while she was gone, and he was hoping to take advantage of her offer, but he needed to speak with Michael first for a number of reasons ( Read more... )

Scan for Michael? Hm.

If anyone just happened to be looking, they might discover the man in question once more on his way down the rear stairs and out of the main building. He had finally given up on trying to put what had happeend at Penn Station into any kind of report, and in the end had sent Roger an email simply saying there was something they needed to discuss.

And now he was on his way toward the garage in the hope of catching Kitt 'at home'.

Kitt sighed inwardly as he watched Michael's progress. The one day he'd chosen to avoid the garage and Michael was headed right there. Starting the engine, he slipped into gear and followed Michael around to the garage, estimating that he would arrive at just about the same time as Michael.

Well, that was what you got for assuming. Michael was just going to have to get into the habit of calling instead.

He looked up at the sound of a familiar engine approaching, and waved. "Hey, buddy!"

"Michael." Kitt's voice was fond, his frustration already forgotten. "How goes the report-making?"

"Ohh ... " Michael made a show of watching the few drifting clouds, "It isn't. That is to say, it's written, but I kinda figure we need to talk to Roger face to face. About ... everything."

"If you're referring to me," and that was a reasonable assumption to make, he figured, "Roger already knows."

Double-take. "Uh ... you told him?" Just a tiny part of Michael was miffed that Kitt had told 'The Big Secret' to Roger on his own, but the rest of him realised that was childish.

"You were part of it, buddy, but I'm also talkin' about the rest. You know. Vampires? Aliens? And," he grimaced and pointed toward the sky overhead, "that? If there's the possibility we're gonna have more 'Penn Stations' in the future, we need to give Roger the low-down."

"No. He found out through no fault of my own, before he was even approached to be CEO. He told me he would keep my secret, and he has."

"I think your reasoning is sound, Michael. How would you suggest we broach the subject with him?"

Oh. OK. It did cross his mind that that little detail might have been mentioned, but on the other hand Michael had been out of touch for some time, there. Never mind, he knew now, and it was one less thing to feed his ulcer about.

"Same way we broach everything, buddy." Michael grinned. "We go for a drive."

"It's nice to know some things haven't changed, Michael."

"It sure is." Michael absently patted Kitt's roof. "You figure we should conspire first, or just go grab the man now?"

"Either way is fine with me." Conspiring would only serve to put off the inevitable. On the other hand, conspiring would serve to put off the inevitable.

"Well ... " He fidgeted. If they sent his report to Roger by email, and gave him time to read it before ...

"Yeah, conspire." Michael practically scurried to the driver's door.

Kitt had it open by the time he got there, amused at Michael's avoidance tactics. "If you insist."

"Oh, absolutely." Michael jumped in, "It's all in the planning, after all. Picnic ground, Mr Kitt, Warp 3!"

"I see. Of course. I can't imagine why I didn't know that." Warp 3 indeed. Wouldn't Michael be surprised if he opened up SPM to make the trip? It was tempting, oh so tempting, but instead he opted for a more sedate cruising speed. Didn't want to fall afoul of Gage and all.
