Lunch with Dannie

Sep 07, 2007 13:44

Gage had given Mrs Baker the task of locating a Middle Eastern restaurant in the vicinity and booking a table, if possible, along with getting him a copy of the menu so he could familiarise himself with what they had. When he stood outside the entrance to FLAG's facility the next day, dressed comfortably in an open necked shirt, and black trousers ( Read more... )

Dannie, for her part, was busily finishing up her work. With a few taps of the keys, she locked her workstation, then turned to quickly check her appearence in the window.

A simple, violet v-necked top undeneath a silk shirt of a much deeper purple, a pair of well-fitting black jeans, accented with a black leather belt with a heavy pewter buckle shaped like a celtic knot, and of course the ever-present black cowboy boots. It would do.

Striding out into the bright sunlight, she slid her blue-tinted sunglasses over her eyes. A casual wave when she spotted Gage.

"Afternoon," She smiled.

He saw her as soon as she exited the FLAG entrance, running his eyes appreciatively over her figure and smiling to himself. He lifted a hand to return the wave and strolled across the grass and driveway to meet her.

"A good afternoon to yo too. Ready for lunch?" he asked as he reached her.

She raised an eyebrow as she caught the gaze, but said nothing.

"Sounds like a good idea to me." She glanced over at the silver TVR Griffith in her parking spot, "Do you want to drive or shall I?"

He followed her glance and smiled as he looked at the car. "I'm game!" he teased. "You drive."

She gave him a mischievous grin, "Your funeral," She joked as she walked over to the shining silver car and opened the driver's side door - the door that was on the 'wrong' side for anyone in the US, of course.

She slid into the driver's seat, glad for once that Echo's functions were all suitably hidden or disguised as something ordinary, and also briefly annoyed that she couldn't say 'hello' to her best friend as she usually could. Oh well, Echo would understand. They would talk later.

The engine started with a smooth, understated purr, and she prompty hit the button that made the rag roof eatly fold into the boot.
"So...directions? I'm afraid I don't know the city that well yet."

He slid into what felt like the driver's side, noticing how unusual it felt not to have the wheel and pedals there, let alone the lack of instruments. As he fastened the seat belt he gave her enough directions to get them going and out on the road.

"So you brought her over with you?" he asked, refering to the car as he ran a hand in a gentle caress across the dash.

Dannie smirked to herself as she watched him try to get comfortable. A left-hand drive and a stick-shift, the small, two-seater convertable car was unusual by American standards and she loved watching their reactions to it.

"Yeah," She replied as they moved off down to drive, "It cost me a bloody fortune to import, but it was definately worth it." she smiled.
Shame she couldn't really open it up and show off on these busy roads. As polite and civilised as the little TVR seemed at first, given a good bit of open track and someone barking mad behind the wheel, it could quite easily give the appearence of a violent demon given half a chance.

OOC: If you've never seen a TVR do it's thing, type it into YouTube and have a look-see. Every single car TVR ever made is utterly mental. It's fabulous.

He settled into the seat, left arm resting comfortably on the doortop sill, other hand on his thigh. He was trying to ignore the niggle at the base of his skull that signalled there was computer access nearby, there being nothing resembling computer technology of that level in the interior of the small sporty car.

"How long have you had her?"

The grey leather of the steering wheel slipped through her fingers as she turned onto a side road. Almost at their destination, now.

"Almost five years, now," She patted the steering wheel fondly, "And never a dull moment."

The restaurant Mrs Baker had found was close and Gage almost regretted the fact, enjoying the drive. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" he said with a grin as he glanced across at Dannie. "Bet she could tell a few tales if given the chance," he added looking around the interior of the car again. "Had much of a chance to take her out and open her up since you've been here?"

She grinned and gave him a look out of the corner of her eye, "I dunno," She replied, "Maybe because you've met me?"

Dannie laughed at that, "Oh yeah." She sighed, slightly regretfully. She missed being able to dive down to M1 and throw Echo around the track at Brands Hatch, "No, not really. Haven't really found a good place for it yet. I'd rather not get arrested, if I can help it."

"Ever considered taking her around the test track we have for Kitt?" he suggested lightly.

She blinked, surprised.

"Honestly? I was tempted, but didn't think I'd be able to get away with it"

"Leave it to me, I know the boss," he told her as he gave her a wink and grinned.

Dannie laughed as she slotted the silver car into the car park of the little Middle Eastern reatuarant, "I'll bear that in mind," She grinned, pulling the door open.

He extracted himself from the car, closing the door and giving the interior another look over as he scratched at the base of his skull. "Reckon we can sort something out. Be worth it to see you two let your hair down," he told her with a grin as he sauntered around it toward Dannie. He stopped near her and offered her his arm.
