“So … ” Boon was leaning against a lamp post, casually inspecting his nails. His shoulder rested on the metal, hand in pocket. One ankle was crossed over the other, toe resting on the ground. In fact, given the right outfit of a sharp suit and fedora hat, John fancied he’d look like something out of one of those old movies. Bogart, ( Read more... )

Niki was getting a little despondent with the search for a place that would suit what she wanted. There were places out of the city's centre which were close, but so far nothing in the area she had figured would be best, withing short distance of Central Park and with plenty of windows. Natural light was something she craved after the years of working underground and while air conditioning was unavoidable, given the pollution, she was determined to find something that was high enough, and with big enough windows and space that she could rely on natural light for the main workout area ( ... )

At the back of the cafe, John was pulling out a chair at the table their new acquaintance had offered. Maybe if they sat down and kept quiet, the kid at the front of the store would stop twitching.

A random thought struck him then, and on a whim he caught the eye of the blonde who'd just come in. With a wry smile, he waved toward the console that he and Zylyn had just vacated, inviting her to take it over. There was still most of their paid-for hour left on it, so someone may as well benefit.

Niki picked up the signal and nodded, giving the man a smile as she turned back to the kid who was still staring nervously at the three men. "Looks like they've finished," she said, "so don't want to waste it hey?" she added, giving the young kid a wink and turning to head over to the terminal the man had indicated. She gave him a broad smile and nod. "Thanks!"

As Roger moves towards the front of the store to get coffee for John and Zylyn, he "listens" at her computer, just to see what she's doing there.

John, meanwhile, mouths 'No problem' in return.

Then, to Zylyn, "So, what do you think?" He nods Roger's direction.

"He is a telepath." A half-shrug, "But I sense no hostility or deception. Perhaps he may prove a useful contact?"

"Maybe!" John brightens visibly; "P'raps this trip won't be a total loss after all?"

Logging into her email Niki wondered if it was worth checking to see if Michael had sent her a message. It meant using the decryption module she had in her bag. After a quick glance over her shoulder she looked around as she put the bag on the bench space between the monitor and the cubicle wall. The browser gave her the login screen to her email account and she quickly entered the details, the screen quickly filling with the list of emails sitting there. She selected the Spam folder and scanned down the list, a few possible candidates in there.

From the line where he's waiting, Roger gives a bit of look at the fact that she's opening up her spam folder. Weird.

When he gets to the front of the line he orders a coffee with milk and a quadruple espresso.

Her arm rested on the counter s she reached into her bag and pulled out what looked like a small MP3 player. She plugged it into the USB slot and quickly saved the files from the spam emails to the player, pulled it out and slipped it back into her bag again. It could wait till she was back at the bedsitter she was currently staying it. In the meantime she started going through her regular emails after emptying the spam folder.

There's a quick conference going on at the table, deciding what they're going to tell Roger and what they're going to ask him. In all honesty, John's given up on tracking the vampire any further today, although he knows Zylyn's determined enough to keep trying.

They'll sit, talk, find out what Roger's story is, and maybe make a friend for later. And as for the blonde, well - a good deed never went astray.

Roger comes back with 2 coffees and puzzled look on his face. He's obviously looking towards the blonde, but smiles as soon as he's sat at the table.

"I'm not sure I got yours right, John, but here's a quadruple espresso for you." He places the cup in front of Zylyn.

"Don't drink it too fast!" Advises John, smirking a little; 'quad espresso' - he'll have to remember that.

He receives another pointed Look in reply and leans back with a grin. "So." voice casual, but still kept reasonably low, "Can I safely figure than none of us here a 'just regular guys'?"

"More than likely not." He smiles broadly. "I think I'm safe to say that we're probably all...Out of Towners, so to speak."

"Right. More of us here than I figured." John pauses, then casts a glance up toward the sky. "Recently arrived?"

"I've been here over a year, ever since I was...tossed from home."

"Yeahhh, that sucks." He's thinking about Doc. "Sometimes you don't get a lot of choice."

So, presumably Roger here isn't a recent arrival through the rift ... there was no alert on the sensors and he seems too together to be lost.

"You got yourself settled in here, though. I mean, you're lookin' pretty sharp and buyin' strangers coffee."

"New York has always had places for people with...talents. A city this big has more than enough room for people who want to keep things quiet."
