Appearance: Knuckles is 110 centimeters tall and weighs 40 kilograms. Needless to say, Knuckles is a tiny guy compared to normal humans. Knuckles is a red, anthropomorphic echidna with violet eyes and two spikes jutting out of each hand on his knuckles. His spines are naturally fashioned in a way that is similar to dreadlocks, though they hurt just as much as hedgehog spines. His build is very athletic for his kind and is well-built in his upper body. Other natural features include a crescent-shaped mark on his chest and a zigzag tail. For apparel, Knuckles usually wears a buttoned vest, which hides his mark. To hide his muzzle, Knuckles sometimes wears a bandana, covering his whole face except his eyes. His trademark white, boxing gloves remain the same. Sometimes, he wears sunglasses when the sun bothers him. One of the few pieces of apparel he does not go without is his trademark hat, a simple brown hat with a blue trimming on the middle part of the hat, fashioned with three yellow circles, each circle containing a red star. Lately, he’s been trying to get in the habit of wearing a cloak or bit jacket to hide his tail, but he has been stubborn about it and hates it immensely. Lastly, his shoes are very similar to his original design, but the shoes itself are made out of heavy steel and lacks the bright colors. The shoe itself consists of a steel base, fashioned into a shape that covers the whole base of his foot. From there, there are three pieces of steel that make up the body of the shoe - there is a piece for the toes, the middle, and the heel. As such, these pieces click together, but they are held together a Lego-like plate, which clicks the whole shoe together and allows Knuckles to keep the shoe intact and also to allow him to take of these shoes. (Although he does not wear it, Knuckles keeps his tribal clothes made of an unknown animal hide with him.)
Personality: As far as first impressions are concerned, Knuckles comes off as an antisocial, egotistical, and very reclusive. However, as time passes, Knuckles tends to warm up to people the longer they know him and can sometimes be surprisingly friendly and helpful. No matter how long one knows him, however, Knuckles always has a fiery temper, and it’s quite easy to put him in a bad mood. He will always try to maintain a tough-guy attitude and cold demeanor, but he can easy lose this once his emotions run amok. Despite all these things, Knuckles strangely has a strong amount of common sense and is not afraid to tell the cold hard truth to people when he sees the opportunity to. Knuckles is also a very driven individual. Once his mind is set upon something, he will do what he can to do it and will be stubborn about it to a fault. In fact, he usually does not like to leave things unfinished and generally tends to see situations through to the end. Lastly, Knuckles is a very trusting individual. While not a social person, he believes that all people are good on the inside and is easy to convince of anything, no matter how outrageous.
Abilities/Weapons: Of all the abilities Knuckles has, three stand out the most - He has the ability to glide, the ability to dig, and his strength. Using his spines, Knuckles captures the wind and can ride across the wind, meaning that falling is one of the things Knuckles need not fear of. He can also carry people as he glides, too, and does it so skillfully, it can sometimes be seen as flying. With the spikes on his claws, Knuckles is capable of digging through the toughest rocks in the ground and can dig very fast, even capable of catching you off guard and attacking you from underneath the ground. By doing this, he has a skill in finding hidden, buried treasure as well as filling up the landscape with holes. If there is anyone that has knowledge on what lies within the depths of Reial, it’s Knuckles. Lastly, he is known very well for this strength. Without his strength, there’d be no way that he would dig as well as he did. With that strength of his, Knuckles can easily carry people twice as big as him and run far distances. He punches through boulders and sometimes can punch through dangerous metal machines if he gets the chance to hit it multiple times.
As far as fighting seems to go, Knuckles is a skilled martial artist, though he still has much more to learn. His style specializes in punching, making use of his enormous upper body strength. As a navigator, however, Knuckles is knowledgeable in the view of Reial from the sky. He has a map of Reial made by his father during his traveling days that has never steered him wrong before. Besides being skilled at using simple navigation tools, such as a compass and a sextant, Knuckles is also well-trained in astronomy and navigates very well using the stars. This comes from his stronger-than-usual understanding of nature and his father’s teachings. Sometimes, he can glide around to survey the area down below.
While not very useful on the ship other than grunt work and navigation, put Knuckles in the wilderness, and his survival skills show. In the wild, Knuckles can hunt and track down edible food and drinkable water. He can even climb up really high mountains with his spiky knuckles should the need arise. After setting up camp, Knuckles can also set up traps in an effort to add extra protection.
Lastly, Knuckles has the ability to sense mana crystals. This sense usually comes in the form of a hunch and is a very rare occurrence. To date, this has only happened twice and cannot be confirmed by anyone to be true yet, because the jewels or rocks that he found with this sense were given away, because it was not the one he’s looking for. Unknown to Knuckles this sense becomes stronger should he ever tap into the power of a mana crystal. Because of Knuckles connection to the large mana crystal known as the “Master Emerald,” Knuckles has innate, magical abilities to strongly sense mana crystals, gain more strength, and summon/channel fire, or even lightening, into his fighting should he ever get a hold and tap into the powers of a mana crystal.
Weaknesses: Can you say guillible? Knuckles is one of the most gullible people around, so much that anyone could convince him of anything for numerous times. Girls are another weakness of his. Not only is he nervous around girls, he has a tendency to try and be courteous to them (He is no pervert.), which eventually leads to any attractive or weak girl to walk over him easily. Also, Knuckles is useless with a weapon, provided that it is not a spear. Give him a weapon like a sword without direction and Knuckles would fail utterly with it. Knuckles also has a tendency to get distracted pretty easily. His emotions tend to get in the way of things, especially if you trigger his short temper or use something/someone he cares about against him. He also has a habit of trusting people too much. Lastly, Knuckles hates bright lights and tends to get distracted by them. This is what the sunglasses are for. If he had the choice, he’d be more nocturnal.
History: Knuckles was born around the northern area of the Hengua River, very close to the Talexhia Range, as Knuckles of the Echidna Tribe. He was born of a demihuman people, echidna nomads who traveled along the river for survival for an unknown amount of years. Not much is known about Knuckles’s people, because they were very secretive and exclusive, usually wary of outsiders and rarely left the tribe. His father, Locke, however, was an exception. According to Knuckles, he had left Knuckles’s mother before he was born in pursuit of travel, which he was known for even before he married his mother, Lara-le. Unlike other peoples, the specific demihumans that Knuckles was a part of were capable of taking care of themselves in the wild since birth. However, the society Knuckles was born into stayed together for the sake of survival. In that sense, Knuckles was already mature at the age of one.
Once he became three, his father returned and took Knuckles to the mountains, where they made a pilgrimage many other echidnas did to the “Master Emerald,” a beautiful, giant jewel that the echidnas believed gave them life. Locke told Knuckles that the echidnas constantly have people go up there to protect it. Afterwards, he took Knuckles with him to travel around Reial, in order to teach him what he has learned during his travel, such as direction, martial arts, general survival skills, climbing, and basically all the skills listed in Knuckles’s Abilities came from Locke. He also inherited his father’s love of travel and learned more about the outside world than most of his people ever know. Ten years later, Locke and Knuckles returned to the Master Emerald shrine. Locke went up to it first, and suddenly was engulfed by a sea of flames. When Knuckles went closer to help him, he discovered no trace of the flames or his father left, only ashes. Upon further inspection, the “Master Emerald” was also gone. He searched all around the Hengua River, but his people had disappeared as well.
He secretly suspected foul play from fellow echidnas, so he hides his identity as Locke’s son by hiding his family mark with a vest, in case he were to ever meet any survivors. Apparently, Locke had gotten a bad reputation among fellow echidnas. At first, Knuckles went by “Knuckles, son of Locke” before he realized that Locke had gained a bad reputation in some parts. As such, he took on the surname, Guardian, another alias of Locke, in an effort to assimilate more into the outside culture. He suspects that somebody had ruined his father’s reputation and is finding a way to clear it. Without any other direction, Knuckles decided to be the greatest treasure hunter in all of history and recover the “Master Emerald” to its rightful place. He believes that once the “Master Emerald” returns to the land, his people will return. Since then, he had grown an affinity for emeralds and tends to collect them and sell them more than any other treasure he finds. Ever since the tragedy of losing his people, Knuckles has been traveling and searching ever since.
