The stereotype is true. Most mexican guys really are creepy. Not to say there are not quiet a few really sweet ones, but many of them... yuck. For instance this one violinist who keeps saying awkward things and makes me want to leave. He then gets offended when I leave and jokes about me not liking him. I got news for him. I DON´T!!
Things have been going pretty well. I am getting down to the end and I have only had one half-meltdown so far. It was the only real pang of homesickness I have had. I think it happened because the weather was like home with the rain and the temperature and nothing else was. And then thinking of home led me to Thanksgiving and suddenly I left out. But that is pretty rediculous. I have fully recovered and more as I can now see how rediculous it was to let myself become such a fussy twit. But I think the real problem is I have just been exhausted. I have now been in school for almost 15 weeks. I haven´t been sleeping well and I keep brooding on things that do not matter at all or have any relevence currently.
Yesterday I learned that the big piano recital is on my birthday. I know it is irrational, but I felt really upset. I really wanted to go home for my birthday and actually have a cake and celebration. It sounds selfish when you put in writing, but it is nice to have a day for you. I didn´t really have one this year and it felt like my birthday never really happened, which is probably why I had already decided I was going home this year. But I guess it was not to meant to be.
So I have 27 complete days left here. It will be 27 interesting days seeing as how on December 1st Mexico will have two presidents. The elected one and the losing candidate, Obrador, who just declared himself president yesterday in a ceremony put on by himself in Mexico City. The whole situation has been rather facinating to watch as an outsider. Everything about the loser has been censored by most television stations to "calm" the problem. Personally, I think it is rather clear that it does not promote free press and only contributes to the problem by giving the losing candidate ammunition. But it really is true that once something is off the television it quickly slips out of mind.
We shall see. Oh, and everyone is chattering about how cold it is and getting out the scarfs. The temperature: 45 degrees.
