Sah, I think you have an amazing capacity for understanding people's feelings. You give me entirely too much credit.
I'd like to think that one reason you and I have always connected has been our strangely similar backgrounds. You and I come from broken homes. Yet I think there is something within both of us that resists being a victim of our circumstances. Throughout highschool you worked hard (as I did) despite how rocky things were at home. You wanted to make sure you had plenty of opportunity once you moved into the next phase of your life -- so that you could rise above your circumstances and not be a victim of where you came from.
Now look at you, as independent as ever. I wish I had the balls to go to Europe straight out of highschool. By giving yourself this time to reflect, you'll know exactly what you want to do next. No wrong detours for you.
I had a chance to reflect last night. I think for the first time ever I was relieved after having put down my feelings in livejournal. I went for a long drive and got lost in Lakeside while listening to Nanci Griffith, my new-loved singer-songwriter. There's probably nothing more soothing than hearing thoughtful lyrics that speak to you directly. I'm sure you know what I mean.
Well I can't wait to get the update when you get back from Europe. In the meantime, be well, and know that we are richly blessed despite our circumstances.
Thank you.
Love,
Brother Nick
