[Hakkai is propped against a tree, looking far paler than normal. His right shoulder has been torn open to the bone, and while he's done his best to bandage it, the blood loss was still severe. He's covered in dozens of smaller scratches, scrapes, and bruises from his tumble down the hillside.]

[His eyes are shut, as well.]

... not terribly long.

That gryphon sure did a number on him. This really sucks.]

Try not to move.

[Kloe is not a gentle doctor. But she might try a little harder to be nice seeing how poorly off he is.

She tosses her bag of medical supplies on the ground and sets to work.]

I'm surprised you got away.

[She's surprised anyone got away, actually.]

I've no intention of moving...

[He cracks an eye open, watching her. He really won't move. That takes too much effort, and he's so tired.]

[He also probably knows what that fatigue means.]

I'm not precisely proud of it.

Oh don't start with that survivor's guilt crap.

[But there's not a lot of sting to her voice.

She finishes up the last of the bandaging and steps back.]

The thing that attacked you was sick. You are at risk of infection because of your injuries. Therefore I require you to stay in my pod for twenty-four hour observation.

[If he doesn't die before then. There's not much she can do about the blood loss without the proper supplies.]

It's more shame... at my own cowardice.

[He blinks slowly at her. Of course infection is a possibility -- he's been rolling in the dirt. The rest of her statement doesn't quite register as much as it probably should.]

[He nods. But that's all.]

I don't find trying to survive very cowardly. Dying for no reason isn't a noble cause.

Ah... very well.

[His breath sort of hitches, and he shakes his head. He barely has the energy to move his head, let alone stand up.]

[Kloe leans down and grabs Hakkai's good arm to hoist him up.]

[He doesn't protest then, either. Quite frankly, he's more like a limp weight than a man. He'll do his best to walk, but that's not saying much.]
