"Forgive me if this is inappropriate, but ... are you propositioning me? I'm not offended, I assure you, but I don't actually know you very well, and I don't believe it's a terribly good idea to do such things with complete strangers. Perhaps we could start with conversation?"
"Um. I think you might have me confused with someone else. I never asked you to go to the sex shop with me...or anything else you think I might have mentioned. Especially anything illegal. I'm seriously not that kind of girl..."

Ellie was watching the blue sky disappear into a wall of darkness from the back porch of the house she grew up in. The approaching storm was ominous, a storm unlike any other she'd ever seen.
As she watched, she reached for her phone, knowing exactly which number she was going to dial. "Hey Chuck. Sorry Thanksgiving didn't work out this year. Maybe next time..."
That wasn't exactly the truth. "I don't know if they'll be a next time. Something's going on here. People are disappearing...The sky is disappearing..."
She was trying to fight the tears that were forming, but it was a losing battle. "I don't have very long. It's getting closer...If this is happening where you are, and you get through this, promise me one thing. You just keep going on with your life. You're gonna be something special. I know it."
As the darkness rapidly approached the house, she closed her eyes. Her voice cracked as she got her final words out, the words of their father. "You're aces, Charles."

Ellie was a bit surprised when the blackness was suddenly...not there. The blue sky was now dark, but there were stars. They were shining brighter than she had ever seen. Or at least it seemed that way.
The first thing she did was pick up her phone again, quickly dialing a number. "Chuck? You can ignore my last call, okay? Everything is fine. It's better than fine. Guess Fandom came to the rescue again, huh? Anyway, I'm safe. And so is the sky. Please let me know that you are, too? Talk to you soon."
"Hello! Someone in the sorority has a crush on you and as such, you are cordially invited to our crush party on Friday evening! I do hope you'll be able to make it."

I never called you a bitch! I don't even know you! Why are you calling me about breakfast and flamingos?!

"Okay, I never called you rookie. And you'd be lucky to get me into lace. Nice try, bucko."

"I don't even want pizza! And you should have better phone etiquette. What's wrong with you?"
Reply
"I don't think I'm going to love your nuts. Furthermore, you should get someone else to slap your troubles away."

Pause.
"Okay, maybe I do. Details!"

Not your average phone greeting. But uh, he had a lot of caffeine to get through today and was a little jittery. You'll have to excuse him.
"And so am I, and so is the sky here. Not that it was ever alive, I guess, but... "
