She stood calmly in complete and utter stillness as the night wind blew tresses of her mane in all directions. In silence she gazed at the young maiden crying in the tall grass. Purple eyes just watched as the woman tried to cover herself with the remains of her tattered dress. The girl winced whenever the grass hit a dirt and grime covered scratch or bruise. Shaking fingers tried to go through the tangles of brambles and leaves in her hair.
The maiden's sobs had been what she heard whilst she was walking along the road. She took a step forward and the maiden's head snapped up. At seeing her the maiden's tears fell harder and she pounded the ground.
"IT ISN'T FAIR!" the girl screamed. "WHERE WERE YOU!" she screamed as red-rimmed brown eyes glared accusingly at her. "WHERE WERE YOU!"
"I am here now," she said softly as she walked over to her. Her horn started glowing and all the wounds on the girl healed. "I am here now," she whispered as she nuzzled the girl's cheek. Shaking arms wrapped around her neck and the girl cried into her shoulder.
"I-It... it isn't fair."
"Shhh.... I am here now."
"W-What do I do now?" the maiden asked in a wet sob. "What happens now?"
"For now, you will sleep."
"I don't... I don't think I can. I'm scared."
"I will stay here until you are not."
The girl sniffled and just nodded, crying into her shoulder until she sobbed herself to sleep. Slowly the unicorn moved and rested beside her, keeping silent guard.
