beyondtherift - Journal entry #1

AHEM!

Hello there. My name is Hermione Granger. I'm making my first journal entry here in Chicago, and I'm doing so after a recent trip to the library! I have several questions and thoughts, and I AM hoping there will be someone who will be able to give me some insight into what, precisely, is going ON. There IS something going on, and it's truly remarkable! It's also profoundly concerning, as well.

Upon entering the library I was greeted with a sign that said the same thing THREE times (or so I thought)! It was a simple explanatory sign regarding the 'Rules' of the library, but it listed them three times, which seemed rather redundant. I discovered that the sign was written in three languages (English being one, naturally!). They all appeared to be English (to ME), which I am assuming is because English is my first language. However, I read all of the languages (French AND Spanish) without any issue! I have had a bit of experience reading conversational French, however I've never read any Spanish before this.

I did some additional research, and found I can also read Russian, German, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese, Polish, Italian, Latin, Sumerian (sort of, this is all very peculiar!), and some strange language no one can identify. For any who are curious, the unidentified language was three (seven, actually) words that simply read: THIS SIDE UP.

At any rate. I can, apparently, read ANYTHING. This is lovely, to be sure, as I AM a fan of reading. I love to read, actually, but I'm uncertain how it came to BE and I'd rather like to KNOW. So, if anyone has any information on something of this sort, I'd be very grateful for your insight! I don't particularly like the idea of something going on with my BRAIN that I'm unaware of, actually...

Harry? Are you able to read random languages? If not, do you think I'm affected by some sort of spell? Do you think we should try a Finite Incantatem on me? It might be best, actually. Just in case, yes?

I'm certain there's nothing wrong with my mind, I'm simply concerned that...well. I'm concerned. So. Yes. We should try the Finite at once, don't you think?

Do you think there's something wrong with my brain?

So. Thank you very much to any and all who have read this. I hope you are all having a lovely day and that all of our journals are not possessed by anything unpleasant such as dark wizards or the like.... :) Thank you once more.

Sincerely,

Hermione J. Granger
