ya know, saigon is a smart cat. smarter than his music lets on, like he has some ability, but he wastes it rappin bout bitches, blunts, and violence. i didnt feel like usin 3 b's. neway he claims he rhymes bout all that bs to get ppl to listen so they'll hear his conscious songs. then he likened it to jesus hangin wit robbers and hookers. that is only partially correct. jesus tried to help them people, but he didnt have sex with the hookers or eat food bought wit stolen money. in short he was around them, but he wasnt of them. its possible to get the hood to listen to ur shit w/o makin BS songs to lure em in. least i think so. i applaud saigon for his mission, but i wish he could make better more compelling music while he works at it.
so with that out the way, whats been goin on wit me? well the union has a website besides the soundclick site. this one is more personal, n shit. its at www.theunion.gwgaming.net. we got 9 songs(about 30 minutes of music) done for our mixtape, and right now we're lookin for djs to mix the album. yes our mixtape is gonna be a real mixtape. im thinkin of naming "insert_mixtape_name_here", to play on the fact that everybody and they momma got a "mixtape" out. kinda makin fun of us while providin symbolic commentary on the state of the mixtape. im tired of ppl callin themselves djs for doin producer/a&r work. if u dont touch turntables u aint no fuckin dj. neway ya we got that about 1/2-3/4 finished, song-wise. who knows what we gotta do after we finish recording and mastering it.
ron had this idea last semester to start a hip-hop coalition on campus. it'd be a club that would discuss hip-hop culture, most often the music aspect. we havent fleshed out all the discussion, but one definite part would be discussin essential albums and maybe giving copies or somethin. u know like paid in full, criminal minded, shit like that. and i assume we'd also discuss trends, new music, other shit. and another part of this is hosting battles. so many ppl on campus claim they mc, so y not put em in battles? everyone loves battles. and all this is gonna be guerilla, i doubt we'll be registering our club with the sga, u gotta jump thru too many hoops for all that bullshit just to get a lil funding. id rather just request a room for our meetings, and have our battles outside, on some guerilla shit.
and we're gonna tape these battles. and maybe parts of the meetings. and maybe some other shit like interviews, performances, whatever. and compile this footage into a dvd. which we shall sell. the only problem with that is we know nothing of dvd creation. i know that there are programs that can do it for cheap, but id rather have someone else do the steps after editing. and maybe help us with editing. so i contacted one guy i know, he isnt much help so far but its cuz we dont got details nailed down with this idea so he cant say much yet. but if this shit is too expensive, then we gonna just have to do it all ourselves. shit i got a dvd burner, my friends got em...
so thats it i believe. o one more thing. we added a guy to our crew. hes an incoming freshman, we had him spit for us and i like his stuff, only thing is he reminds me of someone. and not in a good way, like if someone reminded u of a mainstream rapper that u didnt care for much(not hate). i dont know who he reminds me of, but i know he sounds a lil mainstream for my tastes. so while im happy to add someone who can spit, my jury is still partially out on him. but we planned for that, so while we'll add him to our crew, he is not part of the union. for us the union is something really special, not something u just add ppl to all willy-nilly.
now seriously thats it. im fuckin hungry, later bitches
