"Nowdays work has become a great luxury, as everything useful and necessary is done by machines. Then let the luxury be as beautiful as we can make it."
-The Queen of Romania in an introduction to a the 1910 book "The Art of Tatting" by Katharin L. Hoare.
Excellent words to live by for more than just making lace. When you consider how little a person actually needs to survive these days and that everything else is extra then you might as well make what you do for that extra be enjoyable.
And I also just learned that my little trick of reading while tatting is not such a big deal. Apparently it used to be somewhat common to read while doing lace work.
