Today, my son, you have finally become a man...

No work today.  Barring my HR department changing their mind, I have to use around 4 weeks of vacation time between now and August 31st.  So, I've taken to using random days off in order to keep working on the house.  Over the last two weeks I've been redoing my bedroom, as well as trying to get the outside ready for summer and the inevitable BBQs that go along with it.  You know, until the bleeping snow comes back.

Over this past weekend panteraverde both inspired and helped me to at long last rake the lawn of last fall's leaves.  We filled up twenty two bags with leaf clippings, and it took us most of the day.  There are no doubts, it must be love.  This evening after volleyball I'll be putting together my grill, which has been sitting in the shed since I got it at the end of last season.  (The weekend after I bought it, it snowed!!)  This coming weekend I'll finally mow my lawn and hopefully buy deck furniture.  The weekend after that, do you all want to come over for steaks?  Just kidding.

I was going to say I had to buy a 'patio set' this weekend, but that would make me feel like a girl!

Today's project, though, now that my bedroom is about 90% painted, was to put up my new ceiling fan.  I can't say I was looking forward to it, but I feel really satisfied about having gotten it up there without killing myself, dropping the damn thing, or burning down the house.  I've got art, so here it is:

Remember this?  This is the way my bedroom used to look, along with the old ceiling fan.  I hate that ceiling fan.  Other people hate freedom, I hate ceiling fans.

I win.  See what happens when you cross me?

...and the new replacement.  I like to call it The Tahiti Breeze.  Well, the Home Depot likes to call it that too, but I think it sounds nifty.

Here's what the bedroom looks like now, as best as I can show you.

I still have a little bit of cutting in left to do, and couple of spots I need to touch up.  Oh, and I need to scrape the windows.  If I don't put the grill together after volleyball, I'll be working on this stuff.

I'm not sure how well the colors translate in the photo, because I had to use a flash, but I'm pretty happy with how it looks.  Once I get stuff moved in I'm going to get some runner rugs to put around the bed, hopefully in the guise of those bamboo rugs you see from time to time.  Those would go nicely with the fan.  As for curtain ideas, I'm at a loss.  I have some shades I can put back up for now, and I'll try to figure out the curtains later.  They're expensive anyways...

Of course, it's always possible that I'll just spend the evening watching Six Feet Under, thanks to Netflix.  Season 3 just came out the other day and I can't wait to start watching it.
