Back from Kentucky

Had a chance to visit my friend Shane in Kentucky and took it. So glad I did. Returning to the city has involved a bit of culture-shock for the first time ever, but I'm sure I'll readjust. Meanwhile, some photos of Shane at his work, and also with one of his horses, Motown.

The aforementioned retirement home for wealthy horses.

Flies! This guy lost his fly mask.

We were set to leave early when the farrier showed up. This is the farrier's apprentice giving a trim to a gelding. Jared, the apprentice, was very curious to know if I'd ever been in the "cash cab" in New York.

While the one gelding was getting his hooves trimmed, the other two took advantage of the feed buckets in the back of the gator.

Shane and his one-eyed paint, Motown. Motown is the most gentle and well-tempered stud in the world.

Any other stallion would have probably seriously injured a donkey as annoying as Benny. I saw Motown threaten to kick Benny several times; instead he whisked him in the face with his tail.

Benny the donkey, on the other hand, is a reincarnated actor. Benny is gentle, quiet and well tempered as long as he's receiving constant attention, nay (neigh?), adoration. Benny also thinks it's fun to steal Motown's fly mask. Benny belongs to one of Shane's roommates.

horses, vacation, kentucky.
