Fic #1: Anniversary
Request: Touch the Sky, Ryan/Andy, prompt: first anniversary
Requested by: meepalicious
Length: 629
Rated: PG
Notes: This one came out cute. It makes me happy. I enjoyed it because there's no plot or point to it; I just let the two characters bounce off each other.
“So where is it that your parents went again?” Andy asked, as Ryan unlocked his parents’ house and went inside, kicking snow off his boots.
“France, for a week,” Ryan said. “And as much as I loathe the thought of trying to make Stace do her homework, I like the thought of living here for a week rather than in my crummy apartment.”
Andy let out a snort. “Hey, we know how much Stacy loves you. Why the vacation?”
“It’s their thirtieth anniversary this month. Mom’s always wanted to go.”
“Thirty years?” Andy let out a whistle. “Wow. That seems impressive. I don’t think my parents stayed married for more than thirty weeks.”
“It is a long time,” Ryan said cheerfully. “But I plan on being with you that long, so I can totally see it. Which reminds me!” he added, seeing the blush spread across Andy’s cheeks. “I meant to ask you. When exactly is our anniversary?”
Andy blinked. “Shouldn’t you know? Or at least not admit to me that you don’t?”
“Well, there are different dates to choose from,” Ryan said. “I mean, it could be the first day you actually talked to me. That’s a pretty important day, you know? Though, granted, if it is, we’ve already missed it. Anyway, then there’s the day we kissed for the first time, in the aquarium. Which was also pretty important. Then there’s the day that you agreed you would date me, once you broke up with Seth, and then there’s the day you actually started dating me, although that one is somewhat shadowed by the fact that Seth didn’t take the news well.”
“Understatement,” Andy said with a snort. He considered it for a moment. “Shadows and all, though, I think the last one is probably the official one.”
“Bah. You’re no fun.”
“Well, why don’t we just have four anniversaries, if it bothers you?” Andy asked, amused.
“Oh, no,” Ryan said. “That doesn’t work.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m a guy! You should know this. Guys come with a certain number of pre-programmed date slots in their head - ” Ryan ignored Andy laughing at him - “for birthdays and anniversaries and stuff, and if they have to remember more dates than that, they’ll start to forget all of them.”
“Oh, really.”
“Yeah, really. You just don’t notice because you don’t have any family. So, you only have to know Nicky’s birthday, mine, and our anniversary. Three is easy. Me, I’ve got to remember both my parents and Stacy - and we don’t have to talk about the mocking that takes place if I forget hers - plus yours and Nicky’s, since he’s my kid brother now, and I have to make a halfway decent effort to at least remember what month Kyle’s is in, since he’s my best friend. Add four anniversaries to that and I’ll be sunk; I won’t even know my own name.”
Andy bit his lip, then grinned anyway. “Are you sure you can manage one?”
“One, yeah. I can manage one.”
“Then let’s go with the official one, and to hell with Seth anyway.”
Ryan grinned and leaned in to nuzzle at Andy’s neck. “Okay. That works.”
Andy laughed. “Stop it, you jerk. You know I’m ticklish.” He shoved at Ryan’s face without much result. “Just promise me that you won’t do that thing of pretending to have forgotten so you can surprise me later. By the time you got to the surprise, I would have torn my self-esteem to shreds all day thinking you had forgotten.”
“Yeah, stuff like that is dumb anyway,” Ryan said. “If I don’t say something first thing, you’ll know I’ve really forgotten.”
“Okay. Then you won’t get cake.”
“W-What?” Ryan’s eyes went wide. “No cake?”
“There’s cake as long as you don’t forget.”
“Oh. That’s okay then.”
