Your Knitting/Crocheting Habits & Desires

1. Do you knit, crochet, or do both? I know how to crochet and do it occasionally but my true love is knitting.

2. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I learned sometime in the middle of my junior year of college, which was (*calculates*) almost 10 years ago...holy cow. My mom taught me and then left me to my own devices, during which I developed a cross-breed of Continental knitting and English knitting where I hold my working yarn in my left hand, but throw it instead of pick it up. I consider myself pretty advanced.

3. What are your favorite yarns or fibers to knit with? What yarns/fibers do you avoid, dislike or hate? Are you allergic to any fibers? I don't have a true wool allergy, but wearing it makes me itchy (not the point where I break into a rash or anything, though. Just itchy.) Mohair is the worst. I can work with it, but close to my skin is just...aiii. Superwash wool and merino are all yummy yummy to work with. Alpaca also holds a special place in my heart. Cottons are good. Felting is fun, so wools for that are cool. Absolutely no acrylics in my life.

4. Do you spin? Dye yarn? Are you looking to try any of these and, if so, which ones? I have had it in my brain to try spinning and dying for a year or so now, but have not made any motions on my own to learn how. I'd like to try.

5. What do you use to store your needles/hooks? How about your other tools, like stitch holders and point protectors? Where do you store your yarn? I have a circular needle pouch and a Denise Interchangeable needle kit (that I'm somewhat disenchanted over). I've got a plastic box with compartments where I keep all my little notions. And I keep my yarn in large plastic bins in cabinets around the house.

6. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Do you have a needle preference-bamboo, aluminum, plastic, etc.? Are there any needles you would like to try? I love circular needles. It's very rarely that I ever knit with straights any more. Addi Turbos are pretty awesome, and I've been pleased with their new(ish) lace needles, too. Since I don't have, you know, a disposable income, I knit mostly with metal (Boye or Susan Bates or whatever) and bamboo (Clover is what I own the most of, but I'll try anything bamboo as long as the join isn't annoying).

7. Do you own a ball winder and/or swift? Would you prefer to receive center-pull balls of yarn, if the person that has you owns a winder/swift and is so inclined? I don't own a ball winder or swift, but I work part time at a yarn store (Yarndogs) where I have access to both. I enjoy winding yarn myself so I can kind of get to know it before I start to work with it, but if you have your heart set on winding it for me, go right ahead. :)

8. Are you a sock knitter? Do you want to learn? A year ago I was. Now, not so much. I have a fat sock yarn stash but I seem to be focusing on other projects right now that have deadlines and such. Magic loop sock method for me all the way.

9. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit and/or crochet? I really love knitting hooded sweaters (I am blocking the Central Park Hoodie and working on Judith from MagKnits at the moment). Cables are fun, men's sweaters are also a favorite. I'm waiting for someone in my life to start having babies so I can start busting out the cute knit baby stuff.

10. What is your current knitting/crocheting project? Do you have any current obsessions like socks, lace, felting, etc.? I'm on Ravelry (as "rubrchick") so you're welcome to pop over there to check out my WIPs. Otherwise, a pair of felted clogs, the Lizard Ridge Afghan, Baby Surprise Jacket (needs to be seamed and buttons added), Manly Maze (from No Sheep For You), and blanket for a couple that got married last August. This is actually not many projects for me right now.

11. Are there any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? What have you always wanted to try knitting/crocheting? I've been very lucky lately in finding the patterns I've spotted that I've lusted over. I tend to stash patterns more than I stash yarn, so anything that's new and fun looking, fairly unisex-to-boyish (read: not too girlie), and interesting to knit I'm open to suggestions.

12. How old is your oldest UFO (UnFinished Object)? Hm...7 months, maybe. The Manly Maze is probably my oldest, started last Spring, I think.

13. Do you have any knitting/crocheting magazine subscriptions? Are there any that you love or buy regularly? I don't, but I've been thinking about getting one. I really love KnitScene, but sadly it's not available outside of stores. Knit1 can have some cute stuff and Interweave, too. Not always a huge fan of Vogue Knitting. (Who told them the 80s are coming back, anyway? Or that they were a good idea the first time around?)

14. Do you have a ravelry account? If so, please list your username. rubrchick

15. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Sure thing.

16. Would you like to receive hand knitted socks? If so, what are your foot measurements? (i.e. measure around the ball of your foot and also the length from heel to toe.) Of course, giving this information is no guarantee that you will actually receive knitted socks. It's just in case. I wear between a size 8 and 9 (in the States...do folks in Canada size their shoes differently? I have no idea about these things...) I can get you more specific measurements after I wake up a little more, if you're interested.

Non-knitting Information

1. Do you have an Amazon, Etsy or other online wish list? Please include a link. My Amazon Wishlist

2. What is your favorite scent? (i.e. for candles, bath products, etc.) Are there any you can't stand? I dig any scent that reminds me of autumn. Pumpkin, spices, apple, orange, cranberry, pear, patchoulli. Vanilla and peaches are nice, too.

3. Do you have a sweet tooth? Do you have a favorite candy or snack? Is there anything you would hate to get? I'm a big sucker for Swedish fish.

4. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (Just in case your pal wants to make you a CD.) I am a closeted musical theater geek. Also folksy music, acoustic stuff. Dave Matthews Band, Mary Chapin Carpenter.

5. What is your favorite holiday? Arbor Day. Heh. Probably Christmas.

6. Do you have a favorite animated character, animal, etc.? Invader Zim's pretty hilarious.

7. Are you into any fandoms? (Harry Potter, Buffy, etc.) While I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a member of a fandom, per se, I do certainly dig The X Files (Gillian Anderson specifically), The L Word, Lost, House, and The Office.

8. How do you decorate your room/house? Is there anything that you collect? I don't know how it started really, but I tend to collect chicken things. Figurines, statues, toys. It's weird, but there it is.

9. What is your favorite color(s)? Are there any colors you just can't stand? Is there a specific color family/palette that you enjoy knitting with or wearing? Dark reds, dark browns, blacks. Sea blue and green.

10. Would you like and use icons, layouts, banners or wallpapers? Anything specific? Sure thing. See above re: fandom.

Other Information About You

1. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? I used to make alot out of Fimo and Sculpey (jewelry and figures and the like). I keep trying to overcome my fear of the sewing machine. I'd like to make a quilt someday. I also love gardening.

2. What is your family/living situation? Do you have any pets? I live with one roommate who I am very very close to. We have four cats and a dog. I also hang out with a close friend who has a big dog I sort of co-own with her.

3. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens/gloves, slippers or ponchos? Scarves, hats, mittens, slippers: yes. Ponchos: no. I dig fingerless gloves.

4. Do you make graphics? Do you have a paid Livejournal account? I only make graphics sometimes and not very well. I have the Plus account with LJ.

5. When is your birthday? (mm/dd) (Note: If your birthday will fall during the swap, please let mrsdalejunior know by sending an e-mail to jodyullery at comcast dot net) My birthday is TODAY! (1/28/1978) I am 30 and can't believe it.

6. Is there anything else you would like to add for your pal? I don't think so, but if anything comes to me I'll be sure to let you know!
