I give you, Kittyville Hat from Stitch n Bitch.

(I imagine the Imperial March playing in the background of this photograph.)

Yarn: *cough* Caron Simply Soft *cough* for the body of the hat, Mission Falls 1824 Wool for the pom-poms
Needles: US9 16" circ and dp

The Backstory: Shortly after I got bitten by the knitting bug in a serious, serious way (for those of you just tuning in, that would be almost three years ago), my friend Corina asked if I'd make her this hat. I had made myself the similar Devil Horn hat, but being ignorant about gauge, I used sport weight yarn instead of worsted and the whole thing turned out very...unattractive. So armed with the knowledge that those numbers at the beginning of each pattern are there for a reason, I made the Kittyville hat with Lion Brand Wool-Ease.

You've probably noticed that's not what the hat pictured above was knit with. I finished the body of the hat, and as per the pattern, picked up stitches to knit the ears on the top of it. Everything was awesome, till I tried the hat on myself and looked in the mirror. The ears? Were crooked. Like, this cat had an ear on the back of its head, kind of crooked. I was so disgusted with myself that I broke up with the project and then promptly lost it somewhere in my life.

Eventually I made this one out of Simply Soft (I'm guessing I did it in the neighborhood of a year and a half ago, since I wouldn't be caught dead knitting with 100% acrylic yarn post-Yarndog employment). I held off on the pom-poms in hopes that I'd stumble upon a method that would make nicer ones than the old "wrap the yarn around some cardboard" one I had used in the past.

It became a long running joke between Corina and myself that maybe one day I'd find the original hat and fix the ears or just reknit a new one for her. I happily handed over the finished project on Thursday night and, even though she looked beyond adorable in it, I didn't get a picture of it on her (because we were way too jazzed about seeing Pirates 3...Arr!). And I'm a little concerned what she and I will talk about now that it's finally in her possession. Ah, well...I'm sure we'll think of something.

At a different angle so you can see the (uncrooked!) ears. I feel like I changed the type of decreases at the tips to give them a more even looking edge. But who knows...I did knit this a really long time ago.
