Yarn substitution for Knitty Namaste?

I'm a beginning knitter, and I've gained a lot of knowledge lurking on this community - thank you!
I'd like to make the Knitty Namaste yoga bag for my roommate's birthday, and the recommended yarn is Lana Gatto Summer - which I don't believe is available any longer (I can't find it anywhere!). I'm struggling to find a cotton/acrylic blend in a color that roomie would like...has anyone knit this bag in a different fiber and been happy with the results? This will be the first time I've used anything other than the recommended yarn on a pattern, so all guidance is welcomed....many thanks!
