I hope this is okay for this community, because this is where I know to ask the most knitters ( Read more... )

I've had things similar to that happen, but the other way. Whenever I start to "knit hardcore" or do lots of piano or flute practice, my fingers get bigger. It dosen't happen right away, but after a few weeks or so. I've always wondered if it was just swelling or if my fingers were going for that ripped look. :-D

That's never happened to me, but I wish it would. I've got chubby little fingers.

Mesomorph that I am, any exercise even that of fingers, makes my muscles get bigger. So after repeated knitting, I can't get my rings off without a struggle. The muscles at the outside edges of my hands get larger, too, when I'm in a knitting frenzy. Does this happen to anyone else?

I don't wear rings at all, but when I threw pottery almost daily in college (art major) I developed really muscular wrists and fingers. (along with strange calouses on my wrists that were stained terra cotta brown from all the sand and stuff I kneaded into the clay). It's muscle memory... runners have muscular legs, it seems reasonable that those who use their hands for strenuous activity would have strong hands. Especially if you are a tight knitter.

It's fair to say that I am a chubby person, so my fingers may be getting muscular, in fact I know they are, but they are also getting thinner...it's a silly thing. I don't wear rings much, but the wedding ring is loose, and so..

Well if they truly are getting more muscular, and were chubby to begin with, then you may be losing fat and gaining muscle, and fat takes up more space than muscle so your fingers would be thinning.

I have a similar problem! Last year, when I bought my class ring, I was a size 4 in rings. Now the only finger my ring fits on is my left ring-finger x.x So it always looks like I'm married whenever I wear my ring. My fingers have gotten muscular!

Well, it's either due to the knitting or the typing...

Exercise doesn't quite work that way--sadly! When burn enough calories to start burning away fat, it doesn't burn away from areas you're using to exert yourself. Does that make sense? Sit ups don't make your stomach smaller, they just build stomach muscles so that when someone loses enough weight to not have much stomach fat anymore, the stomach is well defined.

:) Maybe you are losing weight and you just havent noticed it elsewhere? When I drop a few pounds I can usually tell by the way my rings fit.
