Ha, believe me, I wouldn't be able to give it away to a casual acquaintance or anything, but my sister I can manage. Also, giving it to her ensures that I will be able to continue to see it every now and then.
But seriously. Great job. It's fantastic. And it's also why, as much as it hurts my crafty, DIY side and stabs it with a spork, I'm going to be buying my next bag/purse thing. The concept of doing NOTHING but seed stitch would drive me mad, much less actually doing it. You, madam, get MASSIVE kudos.
Weirdly enough, I have some cotton yarn that I was thinking of doing lacey bookmarks with soon!
My solution to bags, as I am also very "but I could just MAKE one..." when it comes to such things: sewing. You can cut and machine sew a pretty nice messenger bag in two evenings.
Haha, I just thought about doing that! I love the look of the bag, but then I went "I couldn't put anything heavy in it! Then my work would all be wasted! But wait..."
Hmm, perhaps "floppy" is not the best word...my worry is that the 100% wool will have more give than a cotton blend would, so placing books or anything remotely heavy in the bag will deform the sides a lot, and maybe place extra strain on the seams. But, we shall see.
Wool vs. CottondragonpawsJuly 27 2006, 17:08:30 UTC
I made an all-wool felted bag out of Cascade 220 which has survived the depredations of an entire 12-month college period and is still in its original shape. Sure, when I put books in it it looks deformed and tumerous, but the wool springs right back. Cotton, on the other hand, since it has basically no real stretch and a whole lotta sag, would probably remain tumerous even after books were removed. So I'd say you made a good choice. The real problem with all-wool bags is pilling on the outer surfaces, but that's pretty easy to fix if you get a sweater de-piller, which is usually about $2.

That is one beautiful bag. Very nice. I love the way seed stitch looks, but yeah, it gets boring real fast.
