Knitting Cthulhu questions of sorts.

Hi, this is my first time posting on this knitting community and have come across a bit of  problem with my knitting or at least with the current project I'm fiddling with.  At the moment I'm knitting quite on a dare a Cthulhu doll (see cut pictures).

There's a pattern in the comments to this entry, if that is helpful:

However, I've followed this pattern and it's for a much smaller Cthulhu doll. You'll have to do the pattern repeat some more on the wings to make them proportional to your larger Cthulhu. But the wings do turn out quite nice. My yarn is a bit thicker than yours seems to be and as a result the wings are stiffer than I think they appear in the original posts doll. At any rate, the scrunching technique they use makes a neat effect.

Hm. First decision: single-layer or two-layer wings? Single-layer you'd want to go with a non-culring stitch pattern like garter or seed. Two-layer you could make them in reverse stockinette with ribs for the bones (if you're thinking of a bat-wing sort of shape).

First off, I'd probably draw out a template for the approximate wing size and shape I wanted, which I could lay the knitting onto periodically to check progress.

You have two main choices for direction of knitting, too.

A

B C D Possibly simplest would be to cast on a very few stitches at A and work down, with increases along the lines AB AC and AD. Towards the end, put some compensating decreases halfway between B and C and C and D to get the bottom edge to zig-zag (those are the eyebrow-looking bits; I'd probably also have more than three rays, but such is the limitation of ascii art ( ... )
