For one sock on magic loop, what's the shortest cable one can use? I have a ton of 29" circs, but I keep seeing 40" - 47" suggested. Is it possible to do it on the shorter ones or do I feel an investment coming on?
in the magic loop book they suggested 32" as being the shortest and 40" being the recommended. I did a pair of baby socks last week using a 40", I am going to try my hand at using a 29" for my next pair. Their reasoning is so you have enough loop on either side of the sock so you don't pull stitches from one side to the other, that you keep them as two pieces worked in the round (if you understand).
Have you tried 16" circs for hats and just knitting them the regular way in the round? I use magic loop for socks and gloves and small circumference things like that, but if I can fit the item around a circ, like a hat on a 16" circ, then I much prefer to do it that way. I save the magic loop technique for circumferences shorter than 16".
Of course I knit them on 16" but I lent out my circs in the size I need and I am forever losing my dpns so I was hoping to knit the whole thing on 1 needle. Also, dpns don't always seem bus friendly.
I've seen a couple people say they prefer 29". It works OK (I knit a pair of socks on a 29" circ once) but I'm a weirdo who prefers my 47" circ. You won't really know for sure what you like the best until you try different lengths to learn what feels right in your hands.
If you post a swap offer in knitswap you might find somebody who bought 40" Addi Turbos for magic loop and decided it wasn't for them.
