OMG, that's so awesome! I have a feeling I know what I'll be making my friend for her next birthday. :-D You did a super job!

I'm back with a question. The pattern says everything is knitted with the yarn held double (except the eyelids). But when making the tentacles, how do you make a butterfly/bobbin with doubled yarn? Or does it mean that you actually have to make TWO butterflies/bobbins of each color, so you can double up? Am confused.

Also, by "mini version" - I'm assuming you're still following the pattern as stated, but are using thinner yarn, like baby yarn?

I ignored that. I doubled my yarn by making centre-pull balls and knitting from both ends at once to double it.
If you want to ignore their instructions further and make Opus in 1 colour ONLY, just use one colour for tentacles and knit in round to avoid sewing up at end!

This "mini version" was made using 4-ply (never doubled!) and smaller needles (2.5mm) and following the instructions as stated, though I have since made some smaller ones with slightly changed proportions by modifying the pattern as I go as well as using 4-ply yarn and 2.5mm needles.
Hope this helps!

I love him.

How long did it take you? I want to make one but I have about a million things (or 4) I have to get finished first.

Awesome octopus.

Just over 2 weeks (in odds and ends of spare time in the evening and around events at weekends).
Part of the work was done while at a couple of beer festivals!
