marigoldg's Recommendations

Jan 22, 2007 02:07

Rather deserted around here isn't it! Apparently marigoldg and llinos have both skived off to waste time redesigning marigoldg's flat. Why on earth they didn't just send for Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Terence Conran and let them get on with it I can't imagine! After all, when llinos's garden got accidentally wrecked by someone or other, I just called in a gardener and, with a little help from KnittedSam, they soon had it shipshape!

Those two make a fuss about nothing!

Anyway, I suppose since I'm the only responsible KnittedBeing around, I had better do the recs for you this week - so pay attention!

Shadowfax, Lord of All Horses is my first recommendation. It is a story written by Grey Wonderer and I'm a little nervous about recommending this, since I understand that the author has a strange companion called Errol, and that he is a grey rabbit - not a real one you understand, I mean it's not like he's knitted or anything!

But I digress, the story is especially gratifying since it features the Magnificent Meriadoc as the hero of the piece, well aside from Gandalf, Aragorn, Éowyn, Faramir, Frodo, Sam, Gimli, Legolas and Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all… Oh and of course Pippin - who is in considerable trouble with a certain equine, although not a mare and certainly not grey!

Oh and did I mention - it is also very funny!

Relics is my second recommendation, a story by Nickey. I was particularly drawn to this as it brought back memories of my own, sitting and watching KnittedSam through the window repairing Llinos' garden. I couldn't have watched him from outside as it was far too cold and I didn't want my tea to get cold.

It is a very poignant and sad snapshot of Sam and was very touching. This is probably because it's well written and nicely told, but I'm no expert (well I am but I like to be modest too occasionally) so you will have to judge for yourselves.

Now I know it's late, but I'm afraid it was unavoidable, so you'll just have to get off and read them and have a late night. Maybe miss work or school in the morning. Any problems with teachers or bosses, just tell them knittedmerry said it was all right - you should have no further difficulty.

I shall be holding a test later on in the week to check that you have all done your set reading as above and anything below 70% will incur a detention and extra homework. On the other hand reviewing the authors might well earn bonus marks and possibly gold stars.

Yours truly,
K. M. The Mag
