News from nancyland:
Sister: Sue's CAT scan was clear (yay!yay!) but the oncologists at Northwestern are recommending another round of surgery to take out some parts that they would have removed in surgery #1 if they'd known she had ovarian cancer. Surgery scheduled for second week in Jan.
Family: Jennifer got an iPod Touch for her birthday as the big family present. That means that she and I can FaceTime, which is pretty much the best thing ever. Yes, there's Skype and webcams, but this is just dead easy and in addition we can do it during swim meets if the pool has wi-fi :-). Katie made the high school's 'feeder' team again, so she's doing double practices and a double game schedule until Christmas. One of the many many German cousins is doing an internship in Detroit this fall/winter and will be with us for Christmas. This is a Silent Videogaming Boy (or he was one five years ago), so we may be wracking our brains for things to keep him amused. OTOH, I can probably cross "tech support for Mom" off my Christmas Vacation list and just stick Stefan with the job!
Life: This is the weekend of Too Many Christmas Parties. Today's will feature moose, vension, Armenian food, and moose/deer trophies all over the house. Tomorrow's will be Scandanavian. Both will be filled to capacity with economists and shop talk. I scored a button-up cotton Talbot's dress shirt in a not-obviously-but-still-Christmas print for $17 at Marshall's last weekend, so at least figuring out what to wear isn't a problem. My wardrobe is not very extensive when it comes to Festive Party Clothing of any sort :-)
TV: Oh, Glee, you are uneven but I still love you. How can I not when we have Sue Sylvester grinching to KD Lang?!? Brittany Cyndi Lou Who? And while I'm tired of the Finchel angst, I thought the flirty fun Blaine/Kurt version of Baby's It's Cold Outside was just delightful. And I'm watching The Sing Off as well, because I'm just a sucker for acapella.
Books: I am taking a brief Bujold break this week and just finished Watching The English (Kate Fox, a sort of pop anthropology analysis of British culture/behavior).
Knitting: I'd planned a really lovely lux scarf/stole for myself in Sanguine Gryphon Bugga. I was feeling pretty self-indulgent about that yarn purchase, but then at Thanksgiving Mom pointed out that it is in the perfect colors to go with her new coat. She's right, and giving it to her means that I can buy more yarn later for MEMEME, so it's all good. I am also working to finish another pair of socks for Hans, Jennifer and Claire both want chullo hats to go with *their* new-to-them handme down coats, and Katie has decided she really likes felted slippers. In short, it's Christmas Knitting Season. None of these are actual must-be-done-Christmas-Eve-gifts, so I do have some breathing room. But I'm already looking forward to some Selfish January Knitting.
That's all from here for now.
