We were at Central Market last night, and Matt suggested that I might want to check out the chocolate aisle. He sure knows how to spoil a girl for her birthday.

I see you're in Arlington. There is Yarn Heaven in your neighborhood, but I haven't heard terrific reviews about the friendliness of the staff. I'm sure they have beginner's classes though, if you're interested. Or if you want to go a cheaper (maybe even free) route, you might be able to find a Stitch 'n Bitch group nearby where someone would be willing to teach you. If you want to venture into uptown Dallas or Southlake (the two SnB's I go to), I'd be glad to help, but you may want something closer. This website has a list of groups, though I don't believe it's been updated recently. I hear tell of a group that meets in Arlington on Tuesday evenings, alternating between Borders at I20 & Matlock and Starbucks at Randoll Mill & Fielder.
And here are a few blogs of Arlington knitters:

Hope that helps. Let me know if you're interested in meeting up one of these days.
