Last night, I finished the fourth of four hats for the kids of our family - all identical, except one was slightly smaller (because he's 2-3 years younger than the rest). This continues the tradition I started a couple years ago with these
Christmas Tree Hats (before the youngest one was born). Then there were the
Snowman Hats of 2006 (also before the fourth arrived). This year, I went for something a little less silly and a little more wearable. The yarn is Caron Simply Soft Brites! in Berry Blue and Caron Simply Soft in White, and the pattern is my own, available
here.
A side-by-side comparison to see the difference between the child (first) and infant (second) sizes:
For those of you interested in the reverse side of fair isle:
And a boo-boo: On one of the hats, I realized (about 6 rounds too late) that I had missed one white stitch in the fair isle chart (how lame am I that I can't even work a chart I created myself?). So I decided to just mirror the mistake at the top of the snowflake, instead of ripping back. Since it looks fine either way and all four hats are going to four different homes, I don't think it matters. The top is what I did on one of the hats; the bottom is what it ought to be.
