A couple years ago, Charity bought some yarn and asked me to make something for her boyfriend for Christmas. Then she changed her mind (before I had really started knitting it, so it's cool), bought him something else and told me to keep the yarn. I knew it would go back to her eventually; I just wasn't sure in what form it would be. Then Charity and Joey moved into their new apartment, so I decided the yarn would become a housewarming throw. The yarn is Red Heart Light & Lofty in Wine. I basically made a bunch of mitered squares until I was almost out of yarn (ended up with 9x8=72 squares, or about 40in by 45in), and then ran a round of single crochet around the sides for a firm, smooth edge. I didn't get a good picture of it spread out, but you can easily imagine it from this photo of it folded up and ready to be gifted.
Also, I got some purdy new stitch markers as a thank you for helping a friend turn the heel of her first sock. The pearl ones are handmade, just not by her; the green ones she did make. Until now, I've hardly ever used stitch markers, though I did have some of those boring little plastic rings. But now, I'm using these more often, not neccesarily because I need them to mark anything, but because they're like knitting jewelry. Lovely!
And now for evidence of my lack of self-control. My sockfast lasted almost two weeks. As you may remember, I only had three pairs worth of sock yarn in my stash, so I was trying to ration it and use up more of my non-sock yarn. Then I realized that my birthday is coming up, which of course means I'll be buying myself some more sock yarn soon. So I started a new pair yesterday. The yarn is Lang Jawoll Superwash in Chocolate; the pattern is the Child's First Sock in Shell Pattern from Nancy Bush's
Knitting Vintage Socks, and yes, I am modifying them to be toe-up with a short-row heel. And if you look closely, you'll see my new green stitch markers in use.
