So the
Knit Out yesterday was great. I got to Half Price Books around 9:30AM and got some coffee at the adjoining cafe. I met lots of new people, chatted with ladies I already knew from the Dallas knitting group, watched a couple girls spin yarn, and generally had lots of fun. I won a book as a door prize, a book of little crocheted doilies shaped like houses and flowers and such (most of the door prizes were great - yarn, books, gift cards, etc - but I won fairly late in the day when there was only lame stuff left). I got up to accept it, thanked her and walked back to my table trying to appear grateful for a book I'll never use, full of kitschy crap that I would not allow in my house, much less expend the time and effort to make. As I sat down, a lady across the table from me said, "Those are so cute!" I asked her, "Do you want it?" "Sure," she said, "do you want the yarn I won?" So the trade was made, and it all worked out in the end.
Since I had volunteered to teach, but not enough beginners showed up to learn and I had spent about 8-9 hours knitting instead, I felt like I should stay and help clean up. I was invited to dinner, which was great because I had a couple hours to kill as the Knit Out ended at 6 and Charity and Joey's housewarming party didn't start until 8, and it wouldn't be worth it to drive back to Irving, then all the way to Carrollton for the party. So eight of us caravaned to Mi Cocina and had a blast there, delicious food, lots of laughter, a probable prostitute doing business (well, pre-business) at the next table. The place was pretty busy, so we didn't get our checks paid and get out of there until 8:15 or so.
So I arrived at Charity and Joey's new place around 8:30-8:45. We drank Caramel Apples and played Apples to Apples. I gave them the
knitted throw I made for them (more on that in a strictly-knitting post later). There was more fun and laughter, though I was getting pretty tired by that time, so I headed home around midnight. I got in, checked email, added Ravelry friends whom I had met at the Knit Out, and then I crashed.
Today, Matt and I went out to his dad's house for a visit. He and his dad had been estranged for about six years following a nasty divorce, but reconnected a couple months ago. So today was the first time I'd met his stepmom. Matt took all his guitar stuff out there to show his dad how he had improved in the intervening years. We had dinner at a local Mexican food place (yup, Mexican food two nights in a row - I'm a lucky girl). Then we hit the road again.
As we pulled into our apartment complex, we saw none other than the crazy
loophole lady, parade-marching through the parking lot, twirling and tossing a baton. I kid you not, a middle-aged woman in short shorts, baton-twirling her way across the parking lot. Yeah. I advised Matt to wait in the car until she had passed us by.
All in all, a hectic but fun weekend.
