November already?

Whoa! Time is flying and it's November today! I did nothing but study halloween night, but I did get a chance to dress up in my witch costume on Saturday night when I had a little halloween get together at my place. It was surprising how many people showed up, how much food and drinks they brought, and how many goodies we all ate. There was a point in the evening when I sensed that everyone had hit their sugar high peak and it was so loud I could hardly hear anything (there was no music going either so that's saying something).

It was lots of fun & it continues to amaze me how the secret recipe for a successful gathering is just people, and lots of food. I always do potluck style food and BYOB so it's not like I have to dole out a whole lotta cash for a big spread, and also there is always enough food in proportion to people no matter how many show up. I didn't get any pics of the party, but I did take a shot of skull guy, and my hat and broom. The broom was a wicked find at the $1- store downtown!

At school yesterday there were so many people dressed up! I was surprised. The most ackward one was a male math teacher in a cow suit... seriously... I just couldn't stop staring at the udders... uncomfortable! There was also a teacher dressed up as Xena (thank goodness she was female!), a student in full princess Leia garb (not the smutty Jabba outfit, the beige cape outfit), a zombie teacher (at least I *think* that's what she was supposed to be, oh yes & I met wendymc in the bookstore and she was a cowgirl :-) There were lots more that I can't think of right now.
Today we were all still eating the leftover halloween candy in the Math Lab (yes they give us candy to incite us to study), and I yoinked a couple leftover halloween cookies from the First Nations Student office (there were so many left I felt like it was my duty or somthing, it's my story & I'm sticking to it!). But later today I was out shopping and on the PA came some christmas commercials! Christmas! I know I shouldn't be shocked, but still... there's only like 2 months till Christmas people :-P

I think I might be donating $$ to Spread The Net instead of buying or knitting presents this year. It's an awesome cause & for those of you who don't know, Malaria is a major, major world health concern!!! So serious in fact that "Every 30 seconds, an African child dies of malaria." (from Unicef Website). A donation of a mere $10- buys a mosquito net for someone living in a malarial region. They will be given to every child under 5 years old and every pregnant woman. I urge you to check it out, it is a very very good cause & each donation makes a huge difference! Think about it, even one net could potentially save one or more lives! Here's the link to the Spread the Net Campaign.
