Evil Bunny Hat

Jan 19, 2005 02:18

Pattern: Uses Kittyville hat pattern from S&B and Bunny hat pattern S&B Nation
Materials: Caron Simply Soft in Black and Autumn Red (100% Acrylic; worsted weight); Red Heart yarn in white (100% acrylic) for teeth; size 6 needles for ears, size 7 dpns for hat, and size 4 dpns for bobbles.
Notes: I knitted the bunny hat for my newest nephew for Christmas, and loved the ears. It made me want to make a bunny hat for myself, but I thought that’s not really cool … unless you make it in black & red, with bloody bunny teeth. Using caron simply soft in black and autumn red I made the ears. I broke out the Kittyville hat pattern and made the hat in black. I followed the patterns except for the bunny face and the pom-poms. I used duplicate stitch to make the teeth, and back-stitched red for the blood. The only other change I made to the face was attempting to make the eyes more sinister looking. I tried making pom-poms, but they turned out horrible. They just were not fluffy. I guess I just don't tie the pom-pom tight enough or wrap enough yarn, but it ended up looking like a yarn bow tie. So instead I substituted a bobble to end the hat ties.

I had to brighten the picture in photoshop to see the stitches in the black yarn, so that's why it looks light. The colors are more accurate in the second picture.

Blood Drop Bobbles
Needles: Size 4 dpns (I made mine on a set of four, but a set of five would be better)
Yarn: Worsted Weight Yarn
Other: you’ll need something to stuff the bobble with - waste yarn, cloth, fiber-fill stuff

Cast on 4 stitches

Knit for 9 rows (you now have a rectangle)

Pick up four stitches on the left side of your rectangle

Pick up 4 stitches on the cast on edge

Pick up 4 stitches on the remaining side - 16 live stitches total

Join to work in the round. Knit 2, inc1, knit 4, inc 1, knit 4, inc 1, knit 4, inc 1, knit 2 (you’re increasing one in the middle of each side, I used a backward loop increase because that’s probably the easiest to do on the row directly after picking up stitches)

Knit two rounds

Dec Round: *slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, rep from * to end of round.

Next Round: Knit

Stuff bobble (better to stuff it now, rather then when the hole is smaller)

Next Round: repeat dec round

Knit for three rounds

Cut yarn and pull through remaining stitches, attach to icord.
