book read:
Who Will Run the Frog Hospital?, lorrie moore: my greatuncle joe was an architect in new york. he has told me stories about how when he was building skyscrapers, he would be one of those guys who were walking on I-beams, 40 stories above the ground. he always told me that as long as you were sober, it was no problem to walk on those beams with no protection. those stories always thrilled and terrified me - i have always been clumsy, and afraid of heights. lorrie moore's writing reminds me of joe - she puts one foot in front of the other in a manner so sure and so tenuous that one misplace adverb might send the whole book crashing down. which she never does. read with Interpreter of Maladies
