 book read:
Last Train to Memphis, peter guralnick: the first of a two part biography of elvis that doesn't dwell too much on childhood, a penchant of rock bios that drives me crazy.  i don't care about childhood, this book properly wallows in the details of elvis' phenomenal ride to fame.  i read this book because i was interested in elvis as a cultural figure, if not a musician.  while i wasn't really clear on how much of an impact elvis made before i read this, i think most of the cultural iconography stuff, as well as the going crazy things, will be in volume two.  read with dead until dark, a book in which a very different elvis makes an appearance.

that is the first place seattle mariners.
