FML: Flibber My Liver.
So at this point I am planning on applying only to the seven Texas state medical schools. However, I found out today that beginning with my application year, three of them will no longer be requiring calculus, but will instead require statistics. AUGH. Are you serious!? I thought I had finally settled into my class schedule, and now this?
It's, ugh, complicated for so many reasons:
1. The med schools want the course to be in the Math department. But, 18.05 (the option) doesn't fit in my schedule.
2. Even if it did, I can barely handle my 4 classes this term: two are big project classes, plus I have a UROP. So adding a fifth is out of the question.
3. Replacing one of my classes with 18.05 is impossible because I need all of my classes either for my major, or for med school.
I do have one ugly option: drop 18.06: Linear Algebra and switch into 6.041: Probabilistic Systems Analysis. It doesn't have statistics in the name, but you can't get credit for 18.05 if you take it. So that means they cover very similar material. Also, it is the prerequisite for more advanced statistics classes.
AND! It counts for my major. Huzzah.
Bad news: it's over two weeks into the semester! There would be so much catching up to do! At least the first exam isn't for another two weeks... But maybe the med schools won't even like it! Maybe they'll continue to insist it's not statistics! THEN WHAT DO I DO!??!?
... oh well, it's in God's hands. I'll start looking over what I've missed this weekend. Then on Monday or Tuesday, I'll see what kind of replies I get from the med schools and the premed office at MIT. And then we'll see!
