French press & shower noises

Jan 24, 2008 09:10

It's been a while since I posted here. Lots has gone on. I'll cover the basics, I suppose. After Christmas, I came back up to Rochester for about 24 hours and had coffee with julescm. That night I saw Juno, and the next day drove to New York with Rachel & a bunch of her friends. The trip was a hoot, including Sarah's denial of snoring in the van and a diner in the middle of nowhere. I spent New Year's in Princeton with Hopkins people + groorg1, then spent the first 5 days of 2008 in the city trying to pack in as many folks as possible. As usual, blanket apology applies if I didn't quite get to you. I'll do a more link- and name-filled post later for my own memories about the what & who, but highlights included Thai food with Michael of Nasality Group fame and coffee with Ashley Miller. Oh, and I got to meet the parents of lizzybeth529 AND groorg1.

So, in my usual-ish (I skipped last year?) form, I now present travel & concert lists related to my previous year. For somebody else's way more anally designed report, check out The Feltron Annual Report.

2007 was the first year since 1998 that I did not spend any time in Baltimore. (And maybe DC?)
2007 was the first year since 2002 that I did not go to Avalon.

I'm incredibly lucky to have seen all this. I'm grateful to my family for the chance to go to Prague, to my friends for letting me sleep on their couches & floors, and to my bank account for not crying in protest. Thanks, all.

Today, it's time for my annual attempt at pelau. But not until after I have lunch with a faculty candidate whom I know from waaay back in the day - the early 21st Century, when he was a grad student in the department that I was an undergrad in. Funny, I don't think he ever TAed for me nor did we end up in the same classes. That's rare for the grad students I knew then.

Oh, and I'm definitely moving this summer. We notified our landlord. Oof. This means I should weed out my books, technology, and clothing, eh? When do I get to stop doing this? And where am I going to live?

Sammy cat is stretched out sleeping next to me and, my word, he does look comfortable. I'm so not making it to work by 10.
