More on the strike

Feb 03, 2006 09:01

Is it bad that I'm thinking about buying a digital camera right now so as to document "filth and overflowing washrooms"? And why do I not believe the government officials reporting on this? Pessimism, cynicism? Fear?

Like the NYC subway strike, I don't see much reason to support the workers. The reason the government wants to privatize is that the airports are, and have been for quite some time, in unacceptable shape. Not that clean, poorly run, just all around in need of improvements and modernization. Essentially selling them off to the highest bidder seems like a reasonable option to me. My "inspiration" for feeling like this these days might also be related to my latest dealings with an incompetent government agency. YMMV.

matt_rah, I'm particularly interested in any thoughts you have on this, as I recall were the only friend of mine who seemed vocal about supporting the NYC workers. Also, thoughts from jennyblues, unrequitedthai, and onion_skins are solicited, for reasons that should be obvious to each of you:) Humble apologies if I've left out any other socialist-leaning or Indian-heritage friends. I haven't had my coffee yet. Now I will do that, then pop in at school for Ellen's talk, then probably come home to pahk the cah in front of my apahtment.
