L had apparently told V that they wouldn’t be there before 4 am, the morning of the sixteenth, and he insists on waiting until then before walking up the steps of the church.  Mello was upset by this, of course, because Mello wanted to be in there, well in advance, ready to shoot V in the fucking head for messing with Matt.  L, however, had ( Read more... )

This has got to be one of the most amazing crossover fics ever. Twentyfiveraven recommended you and I think I may have cried a little after reading what I have missed all this long time. And to think it is completed. My heart is aflutter.

The flow is seamless between 'DN' and 'VFV'. The dialogue and the characterisation of the Wammy boys are well done and I love V. V and L are the perfect nemesis. I can smell the heady tension between the two and all I can say is at least L's imprisonment won't have ennui on the menu.

I am an utter M&M lover. The most perfect pairing to ever grace this world and dynamic between them is love. Only a teensy niggling itch here: I don't know, Mello IS emotional yes, and very likely to jump the gun. That is evident but he seems all very decorative so far and wasted. He had some explosive (literally and metaphorically) ideas but has so far only contributed by swaggering. Of course, I have not finished your story so this may change but feel free to argue this with if you feel. That being said, a Matt with brains and does more than smoke and play video games is love and a fucking relief from his usual portrayal.

Another question: I went through this twice, sat and thought and thought yet I still need this sentence elaborated for me (I may smack myself later for the possible obviousness of the statement but pleeeaaaassseee....):
“that’s faulty logic. I am male, ergo I cannot be a feminist".
How does this relate back to V's reasoning?

Hey! Glad you're reading it. It's completed on ff.net, I hope you've been linked/can't remember if I've done so in the chapters/etc. And I'm very proud that it's through with. About your questions-

Mello is by far the weakest of my character portrayals in the story. I like to think he picks up later, when I give him Gordon's rescue/abduction and final scene (which I won't spoil,) but the fundamental problem I found was that he wasn't in charge. In the anime, all the things we see him do are a result of his going off on his own and coming back with crazy plans. In my story, he's under L's thumb, and L passed on the torch to Near. So, since Mello respects L more than he hates N, he's not going to go out and blow up any buildings.
I'll admit, this dynamic was also partially for my own convenience's sake. I had a hard enough time working the L, N, V variables into a plot arc, I couldn't have another character I wanted that center stage. So thus far, his role has been to bluster (which is, you know, fun to write) and which I'm trying to convey as as frustrating to him as it is to his loving reader- fundamentally, though, it came down to whose stories I wanted to tell the most, and he was fifth on the list.

Second, Matt's statement. It's not the most clear thing ever; It wasn't entirely meant to be, he's upset and his head works in very strange ways. I think it's also meant to be punctualized with a question mark. V has just said to him-

“But mostly, I simply must say that I have no reason to believe that you will go to any length to keep my secrets. Or that whatever organization you are a part of would even want to.”

-Which kind of implied that since Matt wasn't directly affected by the problem, he and his people had no reason to care about what was going on in England. Matt replied with 'that's stupid, what, so men can't be feminists?' in a kind of 'just because we're not all descriminated against doesn't mean we don't all stand for equality' way.

Wow, so much tl;dr. I hope you can wade through that! And thanks so much for reading.

If there was so much to wade through then it was only my fault for never ending my review.

Thanks for explaining about Mello. It was understandable and totally acceptable. I have to mention here what an utterly daring author you are. Most author keep within canon even when doing an AU but you have looked at it from a different angle and how different experiences and happenings change a person. N is so different here, he's trying his best to push past his inhibitions and conditions to grow up and take his title and L is, well, a darling with steel. You are definitely correct the M&M's and N would be different had L lived and taken this course of action. This would mean Mello is scarless here, no? At least I think it would be appropriate.

I also like the fact that Mello still believes in God, even if he isn't Catholic Catholic. I am Catholic myself, and frankly speaking, being Catholic Catholic would mean being holier than God himself. Even the Vatican through the ages has proved enough that they are cut throat when wanting something.

Haha so Matt was being sarcastic, was he? I did not get it and there, I did know the reason would be simple enough.

L and V the Louis Vuitton of the genius world. I mentioned that to Raven but alas I forgot she is a hardcore LxLight fan. Must go tease her now.

Jeez before I forget, Ginsberg! Fantastic addition. I'm known as Svadilfari in ff.net by the way. Also! the smutty scene please. Raven said something about bath tubs. Please say you still have it.

Smutlet here. It's not the bathtub scen, that's in the actual fic and is more angst than smut. This is actually V/Matt, of all things, and isn't... well, you can read it.

Thank you! I tried to make the characters as true to themselves as possible within the very different setting. I'm glad you think it worked out. It's just more fun to write that way, rather than just parroting the canon jokes and one liners.

L and V are my favourite, and I've wanted to do more writing for them ever since I finished this, but I'm short on plot bunnies. I've also wanted to slash them terribly ever since the scene in Lilliman's closet (don't know if you've read that far yet, though.) Except I was going for dark realism in this fic, and I don't believe that someone with V's extensive burning/scarring/etc would be physically capable, and I do believe that L's asexual. Plus, realism doesn't lend itself well to multiple slash pairings, and with Matt and Mello already a couple I decided to call it a day.
