As the title suggests, here's chapter three.
Chapter 3: Wasteful World
“… System updating… Registration of important people of note… First Entry…
Marissa Timberland
Human Female, Five feet, two inches, approximately one-hundred pounds, brown hair, tanned skin.
Occupational markings: Marissa seems connected to nature… or what lack there of anymore. Readings indicate inconsistencies in natural thought process… analysis concludes subject may be in forms of hysteria. Subject has been seen conjuring the forces of nature in positive, non destructive ways.
Possessions: Simply carries a long bow, a hunting knife, a thick leather duster, and a bag filled with cooking utensils and seeds.
… Second Entry…
“Raven” Real name currently unknown.
Human Female, Five feet, seven inches, black long hair, approximately one-hundred and fifty pounds.
Occupational markings: “Raven” hails herself as a doctor, which to this point ha been shown through practice. While she can physically treat wounds, it has also been seen of her using an energy source to rapidly increase tissue restructuring. As it stands, the energy signature cannot be accounted for whether it is through Mage, Druid, or Necromantic in nature.
Possessions: Carries a Hand Gun, a knife, Leather armour, and a heavy trench coat, as well as a bag presumably filled with healing supplies.
Analysis and continued study is suggested… Zero, don’t get in over your head. Scanning indicates other life signatures near-by; suggested action is to engage to not endanger these new people.”

The sun slowly rose in the sky, as its light slowly filtered into the small room through a window. The sounds of a small village began its movements, as the light continued to light up the surroundings.
Slowly, she pulled the blanket away, and felt along the floor with one foot, slightly padding down. After a quick search, she swung her other foot down and stood up, slowly stretching. She slowly broke into a smile as her body began to become more awake. Taking a moment, she looked as Raven still lay sleeping on the bed opposite of the room from her. She quietly crept to where the window was, and gently opened it, letting some of the morning breeze to flow in. Taking a moment, she leaned her elbows down, taking in the feeling and emotion of the wind itself. It hadn’t been that long since she had time to appreciate the subtle hints of the world, but took the time now to enjoy it. Baker’s Brook was a very small community, yet it held so many aspects that she delighted in that were not there in San Fearo. As she looked out the window, Raven began to stir and was starting to wake up.
“Marissa… what are you already doing up?” Raven said sleepily as she rubbed around her eyes.
“The morning light came; the breeze was too wonderful to pass up from feeling.”
Raven simply muttered to herself, as she slowly got up and started to put back on her leather armour.
“I believe I’ll go and see how the towns’ folk are doing, I’ll let you take as long as you need.” Marissa said softly. She turned back to the bed, quickly made it, then gathered her things and headed out the door.
She opened the door, and gently shut it behind herself. She headed down the hallway of the tavern they were staying in. She gracefully headed down the stairs as a wave of sensation hit her. Breakfast was being made in the mass. The clattering of pots and pans rang, and voices of various people started to flood her way. As she came down, the main floor remained as it was, a slew of tables everywhere, with a half wall and door separating the kitchen. A male Reaper was tending the main stove. His split tail waved back and forth as his blue hands started to whisk some flour and eggs together. Turning her way he gave a broad, sharp teethed smile.
“Well well, didn’t expect you to be up already. Can I get you anything?” He said, quickly turning his head back and forth from her as he started to pour the mixed flour into a cookie sheet.
She nodded her head and smiled back, “Some breakfast would be a nice way to get the day started off. Anything that doesn’t have meat in it would be splendid.” She took a seat at one of the many tables, and watched as more people came from the rooms upstairs and started to take seats at other tables. Another Reaper, this one a female, came in as a puff of smoke, and appeared beside her. Her orange skin and horned forehead brought attention to her bright green eyes.
“I’ll have whatever she’s having.” The female Reaper said, as she crossed her legs and started to play with a set of dice between her fingers.
They both sat there for a few silent moments as others started to come in until the female Reaper turned to look her directly in the eyes, and moving slightly closer to Marissa’s face.
“So, never seen you till last night. You and your friend planning on staying long?”
Marissa shifted a bit of her way and moved a bit away from the woman, “No, this place is wonderful, and the community here seems very strong… but we do have places that we need to be going to.”
“That’s a shame,” the female Reaper said, slowly slinking on the table, “I was hoping to hear some new stories from people passing by. But, I suppose with that red killing machine taking out those Enclave members, I suppose we should be happy it steered clear of this place.”
Biting her lip a bit, Marissa faced off a smile, “I wouldn’t know, we avoided the area, as it seemed very dangerous.”
As more people came down, a plate was placed before her. A human male dressed in light browns nodded to her as he placed down utensils and a glass of water next to her and the female Reaper beside her. As the two began to eat, Raven with plate and glass in hand took a seat on the opposite side of the table and started to eat her meal. The rooms itself become more alive, as more humans and Reapers came in for a meal. The floor of the building became overflowing with voices of people talking about the latest of local news, some blaming the government for something or other, and other talking about how well their plants were doing.
Marissa smiled to herself. With the state the world was in now, it was far off to hear of plants taking well. She couldn’t help but not lose the smile as she finished the last of her meal. A bit of a blessing to encourage growth here was really for the best she taught to herself, she just hoped they wouldn’t mind the rain she was going to be making after Raven and herself were on their way. A little rain wouldn’t hurt anyone; she snickered, as she gathered the utensils onto the plate.
“Raven, are you ready to go?” Marissa said; already have starting to stand up.
“I have no idea why you like this place so much,” Raven said, adjusting her back pack, “The towns just so,” she gave a bit of a disgusted look, “well just so friendly with one another.”
Marissa jokingly rolled her eyes and brought her dishes to the half wall. Waving goodbye to everyone there, her and Raven started to make their way out of the town. As she swung open the door, she took a quick glance back at all the people there, smiled, and headed outside. The two of them started to make their way out of town, but Marissa took a moment, and kneeled next to a growing plant. With a small bit of concentration, green energy flowed over her hand and into the plant. It instantly started to grow larger, and the fruit to become riper. She stood up, and caught up with Raven who had not bothered to stop walking.
The two of them walked out of town and made their way North. Raven silently said something to the thin air, and a slight cool rush skipped across both of their feet. They walked until high noon then took a break to set up a quick fire to make some lunch. Marissa looked over the hill they were standing on and happily saw a lush wilderness or long grass, beautiful budding trees, and large rocks artistically spiking from the ground itself. Raven looked over the hill with the usual disappointment, a barren wasteland, with just enough wood for fire, and not a blade of grass in sight. They both sat down, as Marissa poured out some soup from the pot hovering over the fire. As they both sat there, silently eating, they both looked to the South-East. In the distance, a hovering van was flying quickly over the wasteland sweeping in an arc around where they were sitting. The fan had a faint paint work showing the numbers “316” The sound of loud rock music, and male voices yelling unintelligently towards one another could be heard. Squinting, and starting to get up, the both of them looked carefully at the van, still going at a fast speed.
There were only two viewable people, a male Reaper, coming from an access hatch to the roof setting up a Sniper Rifle. The Reaper was a purple colour, with small horns just above his eyebrows. He seemed to be wearing camouflaged that integrated itself to the van. He seemed to be dancing and yelling into a headset as he continued to set up his gun.
The other was a male human driver. He was brandishing an energy hand gun out of the window carelessly as he seemed mostly to be driving with his knees. He was wearing armour that seemed to be formed of rock, and his eyes glowed a slight green. He was just not an attractive man in any sense of the word. He seemed calm, but taking delight in driving over the wasteland.
The van speed past, not even seeming to realize that Raven and Marissa were there. Shrugging to one another, Marissa and Raven finished their lunch, then packed up their things.
Raven turned towards Marissa as she was putting out the fire, “Do you want to get there in a hurry? I can transform if you want.”
Looking a little surprised, Marissa looked a bit confused, “You never told me you could transform. What can you transform into?”
Smirking a bit, she came off a bit sarcastic, “With a name like Raven, maybe a dog.”
While trying not to laugh, Raven walked away from Marissa. After a few moments, the sound of her bag opening, and clothes being taken off could be heard. Shortly, the zipper went again, and sounded like it was tossed away. For a few moments, cracks of what sounded like something breaking echoed, with it ending in a Raven call. After a few moments, an unnaturally large Raven, with a backpack strapped on hopped its way over to Marissa. Looking over the new form, she couldn’t help but be a bit mesmerized.
Marissa looked over Raven for awhile, then went to feel one of the feathers. They were the real thing.
“Can you talk while you’re in that form?” Marissa couldn’t help but ask.
Raven simply looked unimpressed and gave out a loud Raven screech.
“I suppose that’s a no.” Marissa said as she went around behind her and started to climb onto Raven’s very large back. After getting adjusted, she grasped tightly as Raven started to powerfully flap her wings and started to fly in the direction the van was going.
Raven flew majestically through the air as Marissa tried to look for where the van was heading to. The driving seemed to be hazardous at best, as the van took unexpected sharp turns and arcs across the Wasteland. As the two followed them, the sun slowly started to go down. When the sun was fully down, in the distance there seemed to be a walking red figure that seemed to be familiar. The van took a sharp stop, as Vampires came bursting from the ground and started to latch onto the Van, dragging it down.
From the drivers seat, the figure started to take wild shots with the Energy Hand Gun on the Vampires latching onto the van. Most of the shots skipped and bounced harmlessly towards the Vampires, though, a small handful of shots burst into one Vampires arm as the limb tore away and it skidded on the ground harshly behind the van. The figure on top of the van was remaining focused and steady, as he took aim at any of the Vampires that would be stupid enough to poke their heads to the roof.
Suddenly, a block was kicked out of the van, and in its place another Soldier leaned out with an Assault Rifle and started to fire in short burst. This Soldier was wearing tightly formed plates that ran all along his body. As he continued to shot, the Yellow glow of his eyes readied, trying to find the next target. He quickly pulled out the clip from his Assault Rifle and replaced it with a new one.
With the constant fire, the Vampires tried to take a more defensive position. One started to climb along the back of the van, piercing its fists to get a solid hold. Before it could reach the roof, a blue shining blade came straight through its heart. The bladed arced up then pulled back violently. The Vampires body slammed against the back of the van, slowly sliding down the back and onto the floor leaving a thick blood trail. After a moment, the back was opened up. Another Soldier clad in tightly formed plates with an Energy Long sword out in his right wrist, and an energy dagger with a spiked cord came out from his left wrist. His eyes glowed blue, as he seemed to be looking around for the next enemy.
Suddenly, the van took a sharp turn and stopped in place. The Soldier in the back leaped out, and started to go into a fury of slashes at the other Vampires that were coming out of the ground. Behind him followed the Soldier with the Assault Rifle, who took shots at other targets within the vicinity. The drivers’ door opened, and the Soldier wearing the stone looking armour and carrying the Energy Hand Gun came out slowly, tapping it on one shoulder. He seemed to be analyzing the field of battle, and, with a sick smile, started to dig into a side pouch which held grenades, which he promptly started to toss with glee. The Reaper on the top of the van occasional shot out a tremendous blow from his Sniper Rifle, bursting vital organs of the Horde coming up.
Raven continued to take flight in the direction of where the Red figure was.
Marissa tapped on her back and yelled loudly, “I think they’ll be fine, why don’t we go and help out the other one?”
Raven took a steep swoop downwards when they were getting closer to the position. They landed nearby to where the red figure was fighting through the Horde as well. Upon landing, Marissa drew out her longbow and started to volley arrows at the Vampires attacking the red figure. Raven, quickly tried to hop a bit away, and changed back into her human form. The cracking of the bones could be heard as Marissa fired, as well as the sounds of her changing back into her clothes. After a few moments she stood beside Marissa seeing what was going on.
In the distance from them, they could see that the red figure was Zero, the person they had seen the day before. While he held an Energy Long sword in his right hand, he seemed to be more of a hurricane of destruction as the Vampires continued to come up from the earth itself. Marissa continued to fire arrows into the fray as she could, even though from the looks of it, their help wasn’t necessary.
Raven sighed a bit and started to walk in the direction of where the Soldiers in the van were fighting. She took her time walking along, and took a moment, once out of eye and hear shot from Marissa knelt down next to a fallen Vampire body. She smelled to herself for a moment, as black energy started to form around her hands. She touched the corpse and the soul from within started to wrack in pain and come out tainted from the energy. She moved her hands away and the energy stopped flowing, as the spirit slowly floated out of the body.
She smirked to herself, “I’m going to name you Fang. Go and help those Soldier freaks beat the rest of the Vampires.” She then gestured he hands at where the others were fighting. Fang then sank into the ground, and she smiled as she could feel her energy from him going out and striking at the Vampires underneath them. “No need to get my nails dirty over it.” She took out her Hand Gun and took a few shots occasionally in the direction the Vampires were, mostly to make it seem like she was helping directly.
The intensity of conflict quickly died down as the last of Vampires were cut and shot down where they tried to surface. There was a moment of silence, as the smoke from gunfire blew over the battlefield.
Raven continued to walk towards the Soldiers almost in a strut. She quickly whispered under her breath for Fang to stay below ground. She coolly dusted off her Hand Gun and put it back into its hostler. She stopped a fair distance away from them, and took a good look at them. “Not a looker in the bunch” she couldn’t help but think to herself.
The Soldiers gathered into a group, and looked at her then one another for a moment. The Driver called out to her, “Now what’s a girl like you doing all along in the Wastelands?”
“Helping to save your asses it seems.” Raven commented as she tapped on her Hand Gun, “Have to say, I am a pretty amazing shot.”
Marissa ran over to where the red figure was, a scanner in his helmet could be seen and he looked at her coldly, then sighed a bit when he could see her more clearly.
“Zero, what are you doing walking the Wastelands again? Do you ever not have a fight going on.”
Putting the Energy Long sword away he shrugged a bit, “Vampires will attack anyone who has a pulse. Who would think when I’m certain I don’t have one that they would still come up to try and kill me.” He looked around, his scanner clearly going around. “Raven’s with another group of people?”
“Not entirely sure who they are, Soldiers from their eyes I imagine.” Marissa said, putting away her Longbow.
“Great…” Zero trailed off, “I’m looking for a Prince and I’ve got more Enclave on my ass.”
