For all our scrambling around, taking down the canopy, etc. from Serendipity Haven and the canceling of said Faire, nothing happened here. We are all safe and fine.
However, the rest of my family is in Houston. I finally managed to track down information on all family members and everyone is OK. Dad is without power, but otherwise OK. The neighbor across the street had a turkey thaw out so they cooked it last night and shared it with Dad and I think some other neighbors. Vince and Ron lost an orange tree and the neighbors fence and tree. Still no power there. Everyone else has power or had power returned yesterday. So all is good there.
One thing I've been hearing is how several communities are coming together and having small block parties to cook all the food and share with those that don't have much. Also heard about people who had power while surrounded by people without. Those folks cooked food for the community and froze bottles of water to help people keep their food in coolers. These kind of stories restore a little faith in humanity inside this cynical brain of mine... even amidst the bad stories I've been hearing about.
Julie's parents are here again, refugees from the storm... again. This visit has been much better (so far) save for a rousing bit of drama from Julie's sister yesterday. I swear she called here no less than 15 times to mostly cause long distance drama with Julie's mom. We were all very stressed out by last night. If I hadn't needed to keep the phone available for news from Houston, I would have disconnected it. The calls stopped when Julie began answering the phone every time H. called.
My brother Chris is also here as a refugee (last 2 nights). He was in San Antonio for an art show and then called us on the way out of town. It's been good to have him here. He has helped me to keep a better sense of groundedness. There's no power at his place, but friends have gone by and said the house is in good shape.
ike,
