I know I don't have any active dancers on my flist here - or at least none that have spoken up about it - so this is probably the kind of post that is put up to remind oneself of very important things but that everyone else ignores.
Ahem. Commence the ignoring.
Creating a fan-kick version of a pas de chat does not make you pretty. It makes you semi-creative, but not pretty.
13 year old untrained dancers should not be allowed anywhere near a pirouette without first getting a grip on a decent passe in parallel. Ditto for 18 year old dancers with fouette turns and sickled feet. Egads.
Good combos of the night: demi chaine, fan, step, six o'clock; lame duck, pique turn, chaine-fouette-reverse attitude turn.
My team desperately needs: a review of basic jazz rolling. Toes. Good Lord above, people - look at your toes!
Bad phrasing of the night: "It's like ... imagine someone is pulling on your belly button ring! Engage your core like that!"
Er ... yeah. OKAY, Tiff. Whatever you say ...
I don't usually force my team to do center splits because I find them counterproductive (where do you ever turn down your hips like that?), but K asked for them, and the seniors wanted to do switch leaps-in-second, which blew me away. What happened to my uneducated, unmotivated high schoolers? Why are you making this so hard on me? :-)
Okay. I feel better now. I just needed to self-rant for a second.
