Dear _____ and ______,
I know your brains at your age tend to revolve around your boyfriends and that your hormones make about 75% of the decisions you face. But seriously. You have no idea how stupid it is to force your coaches to quit ... especially when those coaches genuinely care about you and you know it. You didn't make captain. I'm sorry. That's life. Deal with it on your own and come back and be better for it.
If K and L quit, I can't stay, and you lose any chance of having a happy ending to the year. I guarantee it. The only coach I know who can pull a state championship out of her ass the first year she ran a program is K. So good luck with that.
The goal was for K and L to slowly back away as I move back home and start grad school next June. In two years, I'd take over. That was the deal. They'd give me two years and then I'd let them leave and we might stand a chance of transitioning well. As it stands, they wanted to resign yesterday and I refuse to run this program by myself now. I'm going to school - I will NOT give up the career I've decided I want for you. You can't ask that of me, and I won't do it. So, no, if K and L leave, I won't take over. Not for another two years.
And, besides, I'm 23. You really want a 23 year old for your head coach? I think not.
I'd make your life miserable because I'd take every damn thing personally and get massively defensive at the slightest provocation. K and L don't do that, which is why you think it's okay to do things like this. The sad thing is that you have no idea how much they put up with, and I really don't think you care all that much, either. I suppose you'll find out how good you've had it when we're not around anymore to deal with you.
If the three of us stay, it'll be a miracle and proof that we care far too much about you compared to what you think of us. And I hope one of us lets it slip how close we all are to quitting.
Love always,
Me - one third of the trio that gave you your last two state championships.
